Snufflelufagus Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I see Stuart Pearce is the coach for team GB for the 2012 olympics. I wonder if Wiggles will get a role within the coaching set-up.
Alex_BCFC Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I thought they had to be u23 except 2 players?
mundz18 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Pretty sure it's 3 over aged players, but yeah, U23's
Drew Peacock Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Didn't relise that, no doubt Beckham will be one of them. I don't think they are talking about mental age.
Guest Frome Red Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I don't think they are talking about mental age. Sorry mate but that's a poor attempt, It don't really work when you think about it.
Redhyde Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Didn't relise that, no doubt Beckham will be one of them. If he's picked and every other better over 23 player hasn't declined it I won't support them.
Guest Mr Wendall Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 GB won't be allowed to pick any player picked to play in Euro 2012, so Beckham has a great chance of going.
slartibartfast Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 God! Do I hate this TEAM something or other, bloody Americanisation. It's the Great Britain team!
kevinmabbuttshair Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Seeing as the rest of the home nations want naff all to do with it it is hardly a Great Britain team
Barrs Court Red Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 It wouldn't be if they were interested
Guest CTID1986 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 This is Stuart Pearce in charge! Listening to his interview today, if I was goldenballs i wouldnt hold out to much hope of being there in anything but a coaching capacity
The Bard Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Beckham was heavily involved in the campaign to secure the Olympics in the first place. I'm sure he's expecting some kind of dividend. Captaincy seems the likely result. We will struggle to win it, seeming as Capello is likely to take the likes of Welbeck, Sturridge, Wiltshire, Jones, Smalling and Richards to Euro 2012. If all of those were involved, I'd give us a chance of winning the gold medal, especially if Ramsey and Bale take part. With Rooney being suspended for the first 3 games of a tournament we have no chance of winning, perhaps it might be attractive to him to be involved in this...

Lrrr Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 would probably just be whoever is in form going into the tournament, as you have McGregor also available, Foster, or a youngster like Frank Fielding who Pearce would have seen alot of, anyone know if you can only name 3 over 23's in your squad or in match team? if so you could pick Darren Fletcher for the team too. I do think that a fair few players need to be picked from the other home nations, not just a mainly england team, despite our U21's being nearly as good as any other home nation ( ) Also do Scotland, Wales and NI have to release their players to be available or someone like Bale who has publicly said they want to play are they able to make themselves available for selection?
Guest real madrid Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 The apointment of Pearce as the manager will only increase the hostility to this team in Scotland. For a Scottish view have a look at this forum Where will the team England games be played anyway? I cannot see there being many sell outs to watch them in Glasgow?
Greedo Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Nothing to say about Maynard but I for ine can't stand the name "Team GB" cringey, awful media buzzword that really grates. Everytime I heard someone say it I just think "w-nker, w-nker, w-nker..."
Lrrr Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Great Britain has always been refered to as team GB though, so no difference there, like team USA not being called team United States of America

I've only noticed it creeping in over the last few years. I'm with Greedo on this one. It sounds ****.
Lrrr Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 as far back as i can remember watching the olympics (Sydney) Britain has been refered to as team GB, its also easier 'great britain on the ball, great britain...' or (team) GB moving the ball forward etc

I don't have any problem shortening Great Britain (and Northern Ireland) to GB. It's just the team bit in front. The GB team or just GB sounds far less cheesy and yankified (not sure if that's an actual word!). Perhaps, we need a nickname specifically for the footie team. Can I suggest the 3 lions + the welshman (if Bale is included)?

Barrs Court Red Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Team England with some token celts thrown in.

Thanks, but credit most go to SC_Red for the comeback of a century. It was on this thread ... http://www.otib.co.u...9290-toughness/ Pure comedy gold when those two get together.
havanatopia Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Beckham and Giggs have both said they would love to be part of it.
Lrrr Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Thing is we're not short of midfielders who are under 23, where as we are for other positions so would hope we would look at selection properly
