Andy082005 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The more and more I watch this team, and the more and more I wait for some sort of turn around.....the more and more I realise it just aint going to happen. I really do believe that, not only do this team lack confidence massively....but I think some, if not most, of the players...actually do not give a toss. Firstly, David James. Now last season when he caused split on here, I was one of the ones who would defend him, but I am finding it more and more difficult to do that this season. That moment in the 2nd half summed it up for me, when once again James went walkies and was rounded by Chris Wood. He didnt even attempt to turn and run back!!! Now if that was me...or any player who gives a sh*t, surely as soon as the kiddy went round you....you would turn and make a dash back to at least try to make some kind of block if it was needed. Secondly, now im fairly certain a few will slate me for this, and call me picky...but players coming out after half time. We are 1-0 down, bottom of the league, heading for another home defeat....and some of them are coming out laughing and joking. Campbell Ryce for example.....he was having a good old laugh and joke. Wheres the focus and determination? I play at a local standard, and have been with the same club for 12 years now. I like to think I am a passionate player. If we are losing at half time, I want to get my head on the game. Damien Stewart - any chance this professional athelete could get in shape? I know it must be hard, he only has a chance to train every day with fitness coaches!! Jesus take some pride in your career man!! Maynard - ran around a lot yesterday, but still dont think this lad has the desire for the fight we find ourselves in Stead - can we have the Jonathon Stead of 12 months ago back please??? This club needs more players with Adomah's attitude. Ok, I think we get a bit carried away with Albert at times as this lad is still very raw, and his end product isnt at a standard it needs to be to make the next step up.....yet. This lad is quality though, and is getting better and better, and his attitude is superb. Same could be said about Pitman to be fair. The real shame of it is, I think long term McInnes is going to be excellent for this club. Unfortunately, I think its going to take him a while to turn it round and instill his way into the club. I pray he can save us this year, but we look every bit as bad as what Preston did last year. Its just such a shame we allowed things to rot for as long as we did. We are well and truely in the fight of our football lives and I do not think we have the players here to win this fight. Apologies for the negativity....just feeling very despondant today
ralphindevon Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The worrying thing for me, which has been touched on by some including the new manager, is the fitness levels. I'm a huge fan of Pitman and last week thought he bossed the game at times against Posh, but come the second half he was running slower than Tommy Doc used to. And he's not the only one. None of this looks good on Millen and his team of coaches but also the players have to take some responsibility. I don't think there can be anything more embarrassing for a team for a new manager to take over and find the fitness levels are poor. No excuse.
Snufflelufagus Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 To me it looked like they gave up on 70 minutes. With Brum having played in Europe on Thursday you would have thought they would be tired, not the other way round.
Chappers Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The lack of confidence is a major factor. Also don't think the squad is actually very good.

May sound harsh, but he just doesnt look fit, and he certainly isnt in shape. There is absolutely no excuses for this
Kid in the Riot Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 We are well and truely in the fight of our football lives and I do not think we have the players here to win this fight. I agree the players definitely weren't up for the fight yesterday. We have no leadership on the pitch, no one shouting or talking to encourage others. Del needs to tear into them and try and spark a reaction to focus their minds and find out who is up for a relegation dogfight. Could see a similar Gary Johnson 'hand grenade' style approach which may not improve things in the short term, but is neccessary to move us forward in the long term and get rid of the dead wood

We need at elast 2 new faces in the team that can pick people up and get them going. Someone mentioned it on here the other day, a Shaun Derry type of character in the midfield, and definately a leader of some sort in defence. Clint Hill would have been tidy....but Forest got in there before us. How about a cheeky loan bid for Danny Shittu, Matthew Connolly or Bradley Orr? two players who are not featuring to much are they?

This pissed me off enormously. I thought that after half time the players would come out fighting. But no he comes out all relaxed and having a giggle like he couldnt give a shit.
Super Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 It's not harsh. He's a waster and quite possibly the worst centre half to wear city colours since Dyche. Julain Watts was equally as bad. Like watching the chuckle brothers.
Nibor Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 It would be great if we could stop misunderstanding lack of confidence as lack of effort or not caring.

Andy082005 Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 It would be great if we could stop misunderstanding lack of confidence as lack of effort or not caring. Yes...the fact Damien Stewart looks like Mark Henry from WWE is all down to lack of confidence.
Nibor Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Yes...the fact Damien Stewart looks like Mark Henry from WWE is all down to lack of confidence. Not sure I understand that really. Are you suggesting he's too heavy or something? IMO he's no bigger than he was at QPR. Just a fairly one dimensional footballer and short of match practise.
Guest EstonianRed Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I agree with everything said here. have said the same things myself in previous threads. These players are a disgrace to the club and to the supporters who week after week give up their hard earned cash to watch the rubbish they are churning out. If I was DMC I would go to SL and CS and tell them that these players are taking the piss out of the Club the supporters and the board, and whats needed is a tough attitude. Tell them that if they are not serious in playing for BCFC then perhaps they can survive on reserve wages and other players who want to play will earn their inflated salaries. IMO there should be a clause written into all players contracts that if it is found they are not fit enough and it is seen they don't want to give 100% they should be fired. After all in other jobs if you don't work properly you would get the sack. Come on DM lets see a tough attitude here, these so call profesionals need a good kicking up the backside.

Just a fairly one dimensional footballer and short of match practise. In a nutshell yes.....yes, he is overweight and unfit. As said above, he is one of the worst centre halves I've seen in a City shirt full stop. The days of a big lump of a centre half at this level is gone. With the focus on improved fitness regimes and diets etc, players need to be atheletic...there is no excuse for them not to be. A one dimensional footballer is not good enough for this level
Red-Robbo Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I don't think - with the possible exception of Maynard - that there was a lack of effort yesterday. We huffed and puffed to no effect. What there was was a lack of confidence/cohesion/intelligence - and in a few cases, ability. I'd not pick Stewart. There are better options.
hinsleburg Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 QPR fans said one of Stewarts biggest assets (excuse the pun) was his pace? Either they were perhaps the slowest team in history or he is so out of shape he can't run properly. And i don't understand this anti-maynard movement which seems to be growing on here. He worked his socks off yesterday and was only fed scraps, he does look shot of confidence though so i would potentially drop him next game for pitman.

He's a striker who didn't get into a potential goal-scoring position all game. Skuse looked more dangerous!!!! The Maynard I watched was cantering about on the fringes of the action, rarely involving himself in it. We know what he CAN do. The question is why isn't he?
Guest Ashton Gater Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I thought only a few players stood out as putting in the extra level of effort to impress yesterday, wouldn't have guessed we had a new manager. In particular I thought Elliot was taking the opportunity... but I personally thought Maynard looked ok - not sure about the negative comments about him on here, I remember one particular challenge he went in on where a player not interested wouldn't have risked their legs! Sure he didn't have a stand out game, just not sure it was a lack of effort.
Donald Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 exactly right Damien Stewart is a disgrace. May sound harsh, but he just doesnt look fit, and he certainly isnt in shape. There is absolutely no excuses for this Said this very thing after the Torquay Pre-Season game, Stewart is a complete and utter joke of a footballer. I said after that game I never wanted to see him play for us again and I stand by that comment having seen nothing to change that view point, his attitude absoultly STINKS Possibly the most unprofessional City player I've seen since Colin Cramb.
bcfcbs20 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 How was Cramb unprofessional please enlighten me.

A one dimensional footballer is not good enough for this level Agree on the ability/one dimensional nature not being enough. I don't see how anybody can realistically assess fitness from the stand, you can easily confuse it with pace though. The general point I would make is simply that there was no lack of effort yesterday nor in any other game I've seen this season. There is a very real lack of confidence and resulting quality. Lots of unforced errors and simple things done wrong. I think misconstruing that as not caring is counter productive and too many people do it which makes any little bit of confidence the management can instill in the players very fragile. As we saw yesterday the goal conceded just shattered it and we chipped, hoofed and panicked through the rest of the game.
Guest catcott_red1 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 you would like to think that the ones that are out of contract (which is alot thank god) would actually give a shit and would want to impress the new manager and maybe get a new contract or at least out themselves in the shop window but they just clearly don't really care. Hopefully Del can get in a couple people in on loan and they might improve things and get the ball rolling but the man has a massive job on his hands!
Donald Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 How was Cramb unprofessional please enlighten me. Drinking behaviour. Made Peacock look Teetotal.
Guest Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Drinking behaviour. Made Peacock look Teetotal. Always amazed me that Dario picked him up, not a crewe type player. Still back then all the players drank like it was going out of fashion.
grove park city Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Birmingham City won at a canter the confidence factor is an issue but sadly we could not match them as a team as we didn't have their quality they must have missed at least 3 clear cut chance's apart from a push onto the bar from Elliott and Campbell-Ryce smacking the ball into the side netting the only other chance was Stead missing the target................For some reason David James has never won a lot of fan's over his save from Zigic's header was brilliant but i just don't feel his hearts in playing, Beausejour and Burke ran the midfield and their defense played to a strong set-pattern and wouldn't be drawn out of position Carr was a bit dirty but did his job leaving Davies and Caldwell to mop up the hit and hope balls aimed in the general direction of Maynard who never looked like scoring..... Stead as pointed out isn't playing like he was when 1st signed he had the knack of winning the ball holding the ball then laying it off or having a go now its like half hearted with no end product, game after game i feel there just isn't the quality to put a run together.
WhistleHappy Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 What pi$$es me off (generally) is player 'gestures' which have become automatic & routine ... From the England team downwards - mouthing & mumbling the National Anthem on auto pilot with little or no actual pride, feeling or determination -80% of it is just going through the motions, wheres the once familiar ' British-bulldog spirit' gone? Then at club level the once again routine hollow gestures seen throughout the leagues of players 'kissing the badge' ( if you dont mean it or feel it DONT F'ing do it!!!) , Raising the hands applauding the crowd at the end of lethargic performances - (some players appear to really appreciate the fans, but the gesture is watered down by the fact they're joined by others who clearly dont give a toss). Player applause & badge kissing seems to come as automatically to some as tying their bootlaces - nothing heartfelt & on a par with politicians photo-ops shaking hands with voters & kissing babies on election campaign trails - its so hollow, routine & transparent. True passion, pride, emotion, respect & detemination still exists (& when you see it theres no mistaking it) - but it's the exception rather than the rule... It's the easy £pound notes that have sadly become the be all & end all for far too many 'pros' these days... the property portfolios, bling, cars & lifestyles afforded to so many average players at a young age BEFORE they've really acheived anything in their careers other than signing lucrative contracts. We've come a long way since 1966 - & it aint all be for the better!

But that's a subject for another thread....

Cant argue with that RR,..... a rousing 'National SPORTS Anthem' written specifically for & exclusively used when English teams or competitors are taking part in any sports activity would be great! ... but thats for another thead as you say.
