Relegation Pub Fight!

Saturday was woeful. I think McIness will understand the scale of the job now. The club is flat, the stadium has gone quiet, the board seem devoid of inspiration, the players completely lack any belief, and this is true of the fans as well.

We made Birmingham look good on Saturday, but If truth be told I didn't think they looked much beyond mediocre themselves. However they are a stronger side, fresh from Euro success and the bounce that it brings. Prior to the game I would have been happy with a point.

However let's be positive, there are 30 odd games to play and we have played some strong sides;

McIness will be working on finding his best 11 now and I think changes are afoot, the team that starts in a month will look very different to the xi yesterday. Remember this is a successful ambitious manager who knew what he was coming into; a relegation pub fight, and he will need to make us fit, and solid and only those players that have that characteristic will feature. I expect a tough month with some reverses still to come, but come end of November some ugly draws and tight wins will start to come our way.

It's going to be tough and a scrap from here on in but this man has the calibre, I don't for a second think we are down. He will be looking at teams like Doncaster, Millwall and Coventry, as that is where our season will stand or fall, not against the Birminghams and West Hams of this league.

Always believe.

Interestingly most friends I speak to who support various other teams, all seem to have the opinion that we've got a good squad - so logically it just requires a manager who can get the best out of them.

No doubt there is still time on our side to turn things around, whilst no one is expecting overnight magic by DM, we are going to need to start scraping points where ever we can to avoid that point margin getting to large.

Sunday was disappointing but did I ever expect much from Sunday anyway... not really.

No doubt about it.

Just look at their defence, Ridgewell, Davies, Cauldwell, Carr

Some Premier League teams would like that back 4

And they brought on Zigic as a sub who Valencia signed for £20 million a few years ago and Brum paid £6 million for...

Them and West Ham have the best squads in the league and should get promoted straight back to the Prem.

Valencia were done. Unless they were paying a set rate per inch. :laughcont:

On a point of order isn't it a "relegation dog fight" rather than a "pub fight"? Let's get our football cliches right.

If it were a pub fight then more of our players might be up for it!

RR you indeed correct it is a relegation dog fight, but that conjours ideas of gentlemen pilots, stiff upper lips etc.

I think our position requires more of Glaswegian nastiness, sleeves rolled up, no rules, let's find a ruthless and nasty streak. Last man standing doesn't get relegated.

P.S nothing against Glaswegians, another cliche I'm afraid!

I thought we (the fans) did pretty well in Sunday, it went a bit flat after the goal but we got it going again, no boos at the end. People realise this is a work in progress, DM has acknowledged lack of balance in the team and I think the board will allow him to bring some loanees in to sort it out.

Let's hope we break a bar stool over the head of Barnsley - metaphorically speaking of course - then! :boxing:

That is totally wrong as the EE and away support has made a lot of noise v leeds reading and birmingham.

I think my initial statement missed a word, I meant the new stadium has gone quiet in respect of news!

I agree Knowle that the EE always rally, but as a Dolman dweller, the fans here seem to lack belief and as soon as the goal went in heads went down and the here we go again mentality takes over

I thought Birmingham looked a class act on Sunday (particularly in defence) and without doubt they are going to bounce straight back to the Prem.

Early days yet for Mcinnes, but I was encouraged by his post-match interview in which he identified the basic mistake we made Sunday which was to try to play through the middle against two very impressive CB's. Too many long high balls which those guys dealt with every time, although Stead won a couple in the air, NM did not get a sniff.

Although people (rightly) say there are no easy games in the NPC, we will play many poorer sides than Birmingham over the coming weeks.

I remain convinced we are not going to get relegated, but it is going to be a long hard slog, especially between now and Christmas.

Not sure what the answer is to that because sections of the clubs fans dont all lack belief. the dolman wasnt always like that.
