wookey Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 26 yo Robert Olejnik, an Austrian under-21 Goalkeeper, currently playing for Torquay United, is being watched by Bristol City. Olejnik, played 100 times for Falkirk in the SPL, where McInnis would have been aware of him, leaving for Torquay in the summer when Falkirk struggled cashwise.
Betelgeuse Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I saw him play against City in pre season. Looked decent although we didn't test him much. Bit of a chubby dude though!
bcfcchris2016 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Wouldn't mind a chubby bloke in goal .... Didn't harm 'fatty' fawlke all then years ago :-)
BCAGFC Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Was on Aston Villa's books a few years ago but just like Stephen Henderson he moved from AV to get regular 1st team football. BCAGFC
Bar BS3 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I saw him play against City in pre season. Looked decent although we didn't test him much. Bit of a chubby dude though! I would quite happily have had Neville Southall during the 1980's-early 90's!
Super Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I would quite happily have had Neville Southall during the 1980's-early 90's! Would gladly take Big Nev now!
cheese Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Would gladly take Big Nev now! I've seen him play in the Masters on Sky - Jamo and Gerks just shade him.
bcfcnick Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 The good news is that SL is trying to lure Bert Trautman out of retirement. Such a pity about Henderson and Weale was a better option than we have now as well.

Redhyde Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Weale is another player who got better the less he played. He made clanger after clanger for Leicester is pretty much disregarded by fans and got dropped and replaced, currently permanently glued to their bench.
Pederho ll Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Anybody would be better than our current options.
grifty Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 How is a 26 yr old keeper getting away with playing for the Austrian U-21 team!? It's madness!
Guest Tony Montana Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 How is a 26 yr old keeper getting away with playing for the Austrian U-21 team!? It's madness! Obviously he doesnt still play for the U21's now! Anyway hes 24 not 26
Frenchay Red Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Straight swap for calamity? After all he only came here 'cus we were close to his home. Torquay are even closer.
bcfcnick Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Weale? You're kidding me. Awful keeper. It's all relative to what we have now. He struck me as a confidence keeper and yes he has made a few errors for Leicester and was kind enough to include City as one of the beneficiaries. I reckon we wouldn't be in the relegation zone if we still had Basso and Henderson as the two main keepers The one unknown though is how good Carey is. He has had good reviews from Gloucester fans and doesn't lack confidence. The goalkeeping position is unique in that it's possible to judge talent at all levels of the game. Saving a shot destined for the top corner in the conference league requires no less talent than doing the same in the Premier League. He's young though in goalkeeping norms and we're no in a position where we can gamble too much in such a crucial position. Could be argued the bigger gamble is playing James or Gerken than Carey given their errors this season but the safer bet is a loan keeper. I'm not sure if it has always been a trait (I think it probably has but to a lesser extent) but James this season has perfected the parry the ball "save" to the opponents fox in the box striker. The odd thing is that he seems to practice it in the warm-up!
Mr Gow Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Having a chat with one of my customers today, and he tells me James is on his way out, dont know if its true or not,but this bloke has worked for City and Rovers in his past
Redcliffe 78 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Would gladly take Big Nev now! Agree or Naylor, James was a big mistake it happens in life, i have defended James in the past and he should be encouraging to our younger players with his passion for the game but if James was not signed Henderson would be our number 1, all if's and buts, many will agree i think.

Some conference players may be able to smash the ball harder than some Premier League players but they can't pick out the top corner in lots of different situations like a top player can!
