New Contracts

When are we going to start offering new contracts to players whose deals run out in the summer?? Or have we already started negotiations.......

The likes of Cisse and Fontaine have been class under DelBoy yet they are free to go for nothing in the summer.......

Do you think they will sign? With Fontaine linked to the Saints and, well, what does Cisse think of the club after the KM issues?

Thoughts???

While we need a bit of a clearup the likes of Fontaine and Cisse are vital for us to push forward. Really concerned as to whether they will sign or not......

you should only be concerned if they are not replaced, McInnes may want them gone so he can bring in his own players

Cisse was definitely unhappy under Millen largely because he wasn't featuring. He said not after McInnes had taken over that he would have been looking to move in January as it was important that he was getting first team games. He also said he was a lot happier now that he was clearly in the managers plans and would be doing his best to stay in the team. That tells me that he's not looking to leave City yet, certainly not in January. That said whether he'd sign a new contract before the summer is not certain.

As for Fontaine. Now that he's fully fit again he seems to be getting better with every game and that won't be lost on Southampton who will maybe come knocking once again in January. From his perspective an offer from Southampton would be very tempting, not least because they could be in the PL next season and that would bring lots of rewards including significant financial ones. That said he might not be first choice at St Mary's whereas at City its probably his name first down on the team sheet. Its also no co-incidence that in Carey's absence McInnes has made him matchday captain and also praised Fontaine's performances publically. Obviously Fontaine knows that he's highly regarded at City and that might be enough to persuade him to stay.

Bottom line is who knows what will happen?

There was also an informed school of thought that Fontaine was fully fit for a long time whilst Millen was still here, but for a reason best known to Millen he still wasn't being played in fact he only got back into the side for Del's first game in charge, I personally don't think that is a coincidence, I read an article about saturdays game (can't remember where at the moment) it alluded to Fontaine being mysteriously being left out by Millen.

Not a bad idea to adress the situation in May. Gives McInnes a great opportunity to form his own team. Whoever he would like to keep will not sign without a loyalty fee anyway and it's now the buyers market. Hopefully we have learnt the lesson and don't offer more than one year contract to people over 21 as a guideline. Great opportunity to get out of the madness :englandsmile4wf:

See your logic. However, its a two way street. The club needs to control its costs and players need job security. I think it may be unlikely that the better players would accept a one year deal unless there were no alternatives available to them. Should have better idea of how the club manages this issue during the later part of the season.
