formerly known as ivan
Is there any reason why clubs are playing first round matches today and were not playing until Tuesday? Doesn't seem right these matches being played on a Saturday
East end Forever
Yeah I thought that too seems strange one that !
Lrrr
Clubs had tim option of playing Saturday if clubs could agree, mostly so they got a full week to prep for next game

The Bard
Balloon fiesta, I guess. Exactly. I think it's a good thing having the games before the first league game. They are more competitive than friendlies but less competitive than league games. Suspect there will be less shocks than normal as players will be looking to nail down places for the league, whereas a lot of championship sides have 'rested' a lot of players in this in the past. citywest30
Fairly sure our friendly with Bournemouth was already arranged and clubs had the choice to play Saturday or midweek so we kept the friendly in place and went with Tuesday. Think both clubs had to agree to the Saturday or midweek was the default date.
formerly known as ivan
I'm glad ours is on Tuesday. Like I said it just doesn't seem right playing it on a Saturday just thought it was all a bit strange. Suppose we don't have to worry about the 2nd round either! _Bristol-City_
It doesn't take a genius to work out we already had a friendly arranged which CAN'T be cancelled due to the fact it was part of the Pitman contract. Therefore it must be played on Tuesday.

Either way, we'd never play a home game when fiesta is on, police rightly wouldn't allow it.

sglosbcfc
It would definitely had been played today if it wasn't for the balloon fiesta. The Bournemouth match would have been played earlier in the month. Most teams get a bigg crowd on a Saturday, costs are lower - no lights etc and you get a whole week to recover before the league opener. Are Forest playing today or Mid week?
