Guest leetrundlesrightfoot
When will he take some flack??? over rated not a leader visibly on the pitch awful in the air doesn't play the ball out of defense well and why the defense that "he needs a ball winning center half next to him"- i struggle to see this! as i have said in other threads, im not saying he is our worst defender, but he is not head and shoulders above the rest! _Bristol-City_
Nope, prem class. Bad night tonight, cant blame him next to that large chinned fool. Agreed, shouldn't be captain; not enough leadership qualities. Easily our best defender by a country mile IMO though. That's until we sign Puyol tomorrow. Snufflelufagus
I agree I think we need two new centre backs. If and a big if we sign a this ball winning defender then surely the opposition would just target the other centre back in the air.
The Casual Connoisseur
Never been a fan, inconsistent and prone to huge losses of concentration, wins very little in the air and has no presence or leadership qualities............but compared to Nyatanga he looks like Vidic! One of the most comical posts on here in a long time..... Fontaine is decent at best.....he is certainly the best of a bad bunch when it comes to our defenders. To class him as "Prem Class" is hilarious He escapes a lot of flak mainly because players like Nyatanga are truely woeful.
Guest Brislingwood Red
I'm not meaning to jump on the bandwagon here with all negativity but Fontaine is nowhere near prem class. He's an average, steady defender when hes plays alongside a leader. He is by far our best defender but is that really an accolade?

Surely not even the most naive City fans can think he is 'prem class' He is a steady championship defender. He has been a good servant to us, and I admit playing alongside the likes of Nyatanga does not help his cause, but it also takes a lot of criticism away from him as everyone always slates the likes of tango, who we all no isn't up to it. Now don't get me wrong, I like Fonts but when was the last time he had a good game? Ever since Del came in and made it clear he wanted to build the defence around him he has been very average. He knows he is guaranteed to play and for this reason, along with the fact he plays better next to a dominating centre half, I don't think we are getting the best out of him. He strikes me as a very good pro, but surely him being guaranteed a place isn't going to get the best out of him and he won't perform as consistently. He needs to be put under pressure for his place rather than it just be handed to him. Doesn't come across as a good leader or organiser to me either. SJC
I don't think he's a captain but he's a good enough player that, in our current situation, we shouldn't be questioning him as a player.
