Weak Spine

Didnt go tonight but looking at the spine of the side it does look very weak indeed doesn't it. I think other teams will look at us on paper and really fancy their chances thats for sure.

Nyatanga is just not good enough; weak and poor on the ball. Fontaine needs a ball winner dominant defender alongside him.

Centre midfield looks as if again we have a lot of very similar, average, a lack of goals and lack of creativity. Skuse in my opinion has always been very average and has made a career here from being a hard working local lad. Elliott still living off one good season; no quality on the ball what so ever and work rate has dropped massively. Killkenny been a poor signing. Pearson doesn't really do a lot does he. Hopefully Morris can give us a bit of quality which he havnt had there since Hartley left.

Striker wise we have Stead who leads the line well but needs a pacy goalscorer alongside him. Pittman good 3rd or 4th choice but just doesnt seem to have enough about him in my opinion to be a quality player and regular goalscrer at this level (would need to be in a much better more creative side).

On a positive note this result will show Del and SL we really need to invest in this squad. Hope we havnt left it too late mind!

I meant in terms of since his first outstanding season, you surely realised I meant that? He looked so much more hungry then, hopefully we will see that player again. However I really thinks he lacks ability.

We should be beating league two sides at home easily. First game of the season players should have been well up for it after a long summer off.

We only have 3 players who have the ability to score more than 5 goals at championship level (Pittman, Stead and Adomah) maybe Pearson and Marv on top form. Thats go to be a worry for most people surely?

Don't get this Fontaine needs a big strong cb beside him, he's been only constant in the defence last few years which hasn't been impressive.

Why not play nyatanga beside a big strong cb if it's ok for Fontaine why not him.

Surely if your a cb you must be able to head a ball and tackle and organize a defence, I play cb Saturday/Sunday and your job is to talk to your defence and organize and that's both cb.

Not meant as a dig,but Nya-tangle is simply not good enough, he should be nowhere near the first team now (apart from maybe injury cover)

We had a weak spine last year and have now taken Cisse and Amougou out of it.

We desperately need a new centre half but fortunately McInness clearly realises that, and thankfully he is refusing to panic buy.

There must come a point very soon when, if targets aren't progressing, we consider offering Cisse some of the designated budget on top of his current offer.

Totally agree.

We have Heaton GK

We need a CB

We need Morris in Cisse role

We need (and have for numerous seasons) a creative midfielder

We need a nippy striker to be up front with Stead.

McManus, Buzsaky & Baldock would tick the boxes.

But I fear we will only get one out of three.

I think Del knows that we are a little weak through the middle of the side, especially at the front and back, in midfield we have some very competitive and competent players at this level.

The striker and defender that Del has identified are a must if we are to stay clear of trouble.

I don't think we need too much else if we can keep our important players fit + M.Wilson would be a great addition to the team. On too many occasions last seasons we relied on the likes of Skuse, Foster, Carey etc. to play out of position plus the likes of Pitman, Woolford and Pearson are poor defensively to aid the team when we need to make these changes, Cunningham, Morris, Andersen, Heaton and hopefully Wilson will be big players for us this year.

I just hope we get a goal scorer to supplement Steads work rate
