newarkred
If you could only bring in 1 new player before Saturday's game. Would you choose a defender or a stricker. I would go for a defender.
ChrisBCFC
Striker without question. Defenders - Carey, Fontaine, Nyatanga, Wilson, Stewart, Cunningham all can play CB Strikers - Stead, Pitman, Taylor Clear to me.
Red-Robbo
Striker without question. Defenders - Carey, Fontaine, Nyatanga, Wilson, Stewart, Cunningham all can play CB Strikers - Stead, Pitman, Taylor Clear to me. Yep, what he said. My main worry this season is where the goals are coming from if Pitman's off-form. Stead isn't prolific and Taylor's not proven at this level. Albert and Elliott will provide a few, but we're gonna need more.
Nibor
Defender. We aren't going to suddenly score more goals by signing a new striker. We may very well concede less by putting a quality centre half into the middle of the back four.
TRL
Defender. A striker needs service to score, So buying one is a little pointless

westonred
Defender without a doubt With Stead , Albert, Taylor, Pitman we are always likely to score given the chance With Carey, Nyatanga, Wison and Fonts we are always likely to concede

Guest
Clearly we need both @ 1.5m x 2 = £3m if we want to play with the big boys. Anything else is not going to move us forward. No cash? well if reports are to be believed Swansea are interested in a flying winger of ours that should give us money to spare. Cant see it though maybe at the end of the xmas window when we will see whats left in the barrell and we are........well where we nearly always are. Dels a decent enough manager but class and exp costs and we are short in both areas defence and attack.i.m.o of course.
Cunnyfunt
A good solid reliable defender (hard to come by I know). If we have a solid back four then there's less chance of conceding which should put less pressure on the strikers we already have. There's also more chance of pinching a win here and there if we are tight at the back.

LondonBristolian
If you could only bring in 1 new player before Saturday's game. Would you choose a defender or a stricker. I would go for a defender. Defender has to be the priority. Obviously we need both by the end of the transfer window and I'm sure we'll get both but the first thing we need to do is ensure we're tight at the back. havanatopia
Striker without question. Defenders - Carey, Fontaine, Nyatanga, Wilson, Stewart, Cunningham all can play CB Strikers - Stead, Pitman, Taylor Clear to me. On your defender list I would remove Nyatanga and Stewart as not good enough save for bit parts at best, Carey will not last 90 minutes which leaves a bare bones back line.. we need to sign up Marc Wilson plus get a new CB plus a striker and another creative midfielder.. anything less and we will be mid table at best. Roe
Definitely centre back. Build from the back and we've needed a dominant ball winning centre back since McCombe went.

maxjak
I must be paranoid.......or reading too many spy novels..........as I can't stop thinking about my new conspiracy theory. Derek, our illustrious manager talks to the players prior to the Cup Game against Gillingham "Come on guys we need revenue from a good cup run to bolster our squad with some new talent.......as most of you are average at best?" Result 1-2........average players now rest contentedly in the knowledge that their squad place is assured......................for the time being. (Watch This Space!!) I actually would agree there may be something in this. How many teams get promoted then offload alot of the players that helped them do that? Most of our players have their feet well and trurely under the table, and know that they are probably already punching above their weight playing in the Championship. bearded_red
Defender. A striker needs service to score, So buying one is a little pointless Spot on. In the main we've barely created any chances in any of our 5 seasons since we've been promoted. It cannot be a coincedence that nearly every single striker we have signed in the last 5 seasons looks much less dangerous when playing for us. funky monkey
but steve has no intrest any more and won't give del money to spend, and no one wants to sign for us and we've already been relegated oh well I've always enjoyed league one. Now maybe all the moaners will appreciate the championship a bit more now were not in it. But in all seriousness it's quite exciting knowing were close to one signing and maybe another two. Just means I'll be checking Otib even more.

SnozRobin
Defender - keep a clean sheet and you have a minimum of one point. Let in 3 goals and the quality of your strikers is irrelevant.
City1970
Both x 2, plus two decent midfielders. Anybody who thinks our current squad is anywhere near good enough is deluded. Spot on. I look at our squad and think Christ, we are well short of players who can perform at championship level. For me we need to strengthen at the back with 2 centre backs with at least championship quality. We also need a leader in the middle of the park and not forgetting a prolific goalscorer. But the priority has to be at the back.
