Not sure what he has done to earn a new 2 year deal. Yesterday again highlighted what a limited play he is, as did Gillingham where he was awful.

He seems to have had one or two good games for us, yet the majority of his career here he has been really average if not poor.

He runs around a lot but all too often gives the ball away. All too often he had a very limited impact on the game.

With his contract being up at the end of last season, and with Cisse going, this could of been an opportunity for Del to free up wages and get that quality, creative centre midfielder we clearly need. Opportunity missed?

Yet to see what Pearsob offers to merit a first XI spot and that new deal.

Thoughts?

It's two games ffs every player in the history of the game goes for a bad patch

No it's not 2 games. He has had 2 or 3 good games in a Bristol Coty shirt, a lot of the time he has been pretty anonymous.

Did he do enough to merit a 2 year deal? Not for me.

I personally think he should NOT be playing in the centre of midfield. His best games for us have been on the left wing. And, if it's a choice between him and Woolford, I'd have Pearson playing there. Needless to say I think it should be Anderson there but that's up to Del. I think it would be better for him to provide cover on the left wing and move Woolford on.

I think that we need to sign all our first team squad on a year long loan deal, Why ?? because they really try and they give 100% + then as soon as we give them a contract, they don't seem to bother anymore and they are not the players we gad on loan. :ill:

Did more than enough for me, game of opinions and all that.

He's the only midfielder we have who moves off the ball... I've never witnessed a group of players so static when in possession, but Pearson finds some very good pockets of space. Some facets of his game are weaker than others, of course, but if he was the complete player he wouldn't be here.

I agree, thought he was an important part of why we stayed up last season. Good engine, hard worker, good movement, drives the team forward and capable of the odd goal. Obviously not the most technically gifted player.

He may not have started this season well but to write him off this early is ridiculous.....oh wait, this is OTIB.

Thought he was brilliant last night, him and Skuse look a great partnership

Really!? I think he takes up a position in the starting 11 to be honest. Didn't do badly, but didnt create anything or put in any crunching tackles to stand out, got a good engine on him but thats about it, good versatile player to have for back-up, but i'd start Elliot over him every day

Just thought i'd raise this from the 'Team for Palace' thread. This was the midfield I said Del would go for.

Heaton Wilson Carey Fontaine Cunningham Adomah Skuse Pearson Woolford Davies Stead

IMO I think that is the worse midfield we could possibly field with the midfielders we now have available. Why we insist in doing so is beyond me! We've signed Morris and Anderson and have Marv back. Morris or Marv in place of Pearson and Anderson instead of Wooly. Just my opinion though.

Looked good last night, mind. Hope to see more of Skuse / Pearson.

Thought he was fine last night - except when he "lost" the ball

He and Skuse played well together. I don't think Elliot and Skuse are a great partnership, Elliot needs a different kind of player alongside him.

When I saw the starting line up, I admit I thought oh my god, here we go again! But after 12 minutes I was eating my words! Fair play to Del! Good call on your behalf!

Last night Pearson played really well with Skuse. We even went with a 4-4-2 and according to some on here, thats not possible with the players we have at our disposal. Palarse had an extra man in the middle and our pair dealt with it in such a way that you would have thought it was us with 3! He is a good player, Del just needs to pick and choose his games in which to play him.

Last night's central midfield combination is, in my opinion, the only one we have that we can comfortably play and go 4-4-2.

Two tall, mobile, technically competent midfielders who can use the ball, put a foot in and press the opposition. The fact that one is right footed and the other left is no bad thing, either.

When paired with a front two with the work rate of Taylor and Stead you'll always have a chance.

As for those who consider Pearson "pointless " or not good enough just take a look at his career CV and the fact that our manager clearly rates him as to why he is in our side.
