A number of callers to 606 last night also named us to go down. All about perceptions and it seems last seasons struggles is our standard.

But, they don't give Del much credit and it's not the end of the transfer window yet. Will be nice to prove them wrong.

yh prove them wrong and get promoted by winning the rest of the games of the season and not conceding another goal now that would prove them wrong

I love the way that "everyone else must be wrong and a few must be right".

Lets face it, if everyone else and i mean EVERYONE is saying we are not very good and will go done then maybe..just maybe its because we are not very good and might go down.

We narrowly stayed up last season and struggled the year before that so I think it's fair for people to see us as one of the favourites to struggle this year. I don't think it matters too much - the Championship's notoriously difficult to predict and nobody knows who we'll sign by the end of the transfer window or what we'll do with a full season of McInnes in charge.

Personally I don't think we'll go down and I actually think this season the Champion's much weaker than everyone seems to think and that there's at least nine or ten teams who could easily be pulled into a relegation struggle but I don't think you can blame a neutral looking at the club from the outside based on our past record, signings and McInnes' lack of Championship experience for thinking we'll struggle.

Don't think anyone's saying that. Footballs' all about opinions and it's just that I don't agree with the views of other clubs fans (and pundits) who know very little about us.

Yes anything's possible - we could go down but don't believe we will and not close to it.

We've strengthened GK, LB and RB and just need CB and Striker. Del knew enough last season by bringing in key personnel to keep us up and believe he'll do so again.

One defeat and some think that'll be typical of our season. This time next week after 2 home games it could look a lot more hopeful.

Exactly, the biggest problem with this club at times are the fans who just can't handle the thought that we're not actually that good! It does make me laugh at times when some of our fans rag on the Gas fans for being "deluded" when it's plain to see there is quite a bit of delusion from our fans too.

This division just keeps getting tougher every year i think, It's even harder to find the players that have the sort of quality to play in this league and even harder for us to get them to come here.

Blackpool were favourites to go down and got promoted. Every man and his dog want to have their say at the moment. They'll bore off in a week or two.

Let's see how we perform under the lights at AG on Tuesday and how Del sets the team up at home.

It's our home form that will make or break us this season. A 1-0 defeat away at forest tells us nothing yet.

One game lost and everyone outside the club is having us down for relegation? We're like the Wigan on the Championship IMO, a great winger in demand and a decent team, gets in a relegation fight but always comes to form at the end of the season. I expect this season 16th-20th and then with some money or the sale of Adomah, we could bring in a goal scoring striker and another young winger. But obviously that's only if we don't bring in Amoughu, McManus, Akos, Baldock, DjC, Craig Gordon, Owen Hargreaves and all the other players being floated around *facepalm* A CB to help Fontaine, A goalscoring centre midfield and a quick striker (DjC) is what we need and we have a better team than last season on paper. A GK who got to the Carling Cup final, A) who was at Celtic last season, A LB who has been taught the ropes at Manchester City, A CM who used to be at Chelsea and played quite often and with the addition of DjC, A ST who has played in the premier league and scored 13 goals while at it, if we get relegated with players like that then I'm calling this a fix.

I'm not so sure. For one thing, at least two of the players we've signed (Cunningham and Anderson) were wanted by other clubs; apart from board speculation I've not really seen any solid evidence that the problem with signing players has been players not being interested. With Gerrard and Keogh, for example, it looks like quite simply other clubs were prepared to pay more than we were. Much of the speculation around Baldock has been that (if anything happened at all) the club pulled out or West Ham did; I've not really seen many convincing sources suggesting Baldock himself refused to come.

As for the league getting tougher, I'm not sure on that either. Last year was definitely tough but pre-points deduction/administration Portsmouth and Coventry were both decent sides and the three best sides have been promoted. This year Wolves and Blackburn have question marks over them for different reasons (Wolves have an untried boss and Blackburn have Steve Kean) whilst I don't think the three sides that have come up are as strong as Southampton, Peterborough and Brighton were. I actually think the league is weaker than last year.

Me and some mates all tried to predict the championship table, none of them were anywhere near similar. This is the most open championship in years- saying something for arguably the most open division in western Europe- and I think you can make an argument for about 16-18 teams to get relegated and another 10-15 to be an outside bet for promotion. I would say we're in both those groups. I think it'll be late October/early november before we have an idea of the main protagonists in the relegation battle this year

EDIT: reading LondonBristolian's post above, I would agree in that there might not be as much quality but it's tougher in that there are so many teams of similar ability that it'll be difficult to get 'safe'

The reason bookies make so much money is a reflection of the amount they spend in acquiring sporting intelligence & their hiring top notch mathematical analysts. Of the dozen or so of us who discussed as such in the pub prior to yesterday's match, many of whom have seen 40+ campaigns, we couldn't strongly identify 3 teams to finish beneath us (a conclusion also reached by the Posh fans we chatted with on the train back.) The sole plus point as articulated by one of our group who also happens to run one of the aforementioned high street chains, was unlike his Manure supporting colleagues he has no heart/profit conflict in cheering City on to victory - we're pretty much always the underdog.....

Only a significant change in personnel is likely to alter the chances of us being absent from the bottom shake up at season's end.

From our analysis Tuesday is most likely a 'six-pointer'.

here in P'boro' Darren Fergie is glad his team has been written off as that's his motivational team talk given for him. He reckons the players are determined to prove the studio experts wrong. Do the City players have the same mentality?

I'd predict us to just stay up, but to be honest, predictions are pretty much worthless, I'll just be giving my whole hearted support and hope the team does us proud, regardless of whose playing

I think our post-GJ decline has bottomed-out and we'll stabilise this season.

Agreed, i guess we know we were once capable of finishing mid table before the other clubs bought the Bradley Orr's and Nicky Maynard's off our hands. Lets just hope we can stay up until we get a similar squad to then.

Unfortunately, I agree with this..

However I'm personally feeling very optimistic and believe, although second half of the table, we will stay up relatively comfortably.

Think a surprise team will struggle this season.

At the start of every season since we come back into the championship, I've thought that we would be in a season long relegation battle. That way if I am wrong then I'm a happy man. Mind you, last season under Millen I thought I might be wrong. Not because we wouldn;t be in a rlegation fight, but because it looked like it would never last as long as the end fo the season!!

After 47 years a City fan it's not the disapointment that I struggle with, it's the hope and optimism!
