hippy273
I have to say i was greatly impressed by how Louis Carey held off Zaha tonight, it almost makes me think do we actually need another central defender with James Wilson on the bench anyway? i think Louis has another season left in him for sure seeing as he played the full 90. If we keep the back 4 like that then we have every chance of winning games this season.

GlastonburyRed
Is it generally accepted that Amogou has been training with the squad for the past fortnight, if so, then I guess that shows that he is a possibility.
Strictly Obi
Thought Louis was fantastic tonight, but can he really play a full season at his age? And if he get's injured, can young Wilson fill his boots? Tough call, but i think we need a new CB...... whoever comes in though will have stiff competition for the shirt... BS15_RED
He was absolutely superb tonight, if he maintains his current form and can avoid injuries then it'll be very hard for anyone to get him out the team. John Atyeo's appearance record is under serious threat, and I can't think of any one more worthy to break it.
glynriley
Louis played well Saturday and tonight , do we need another CB? Yes in my opinion. Strength in depth is what will make the difference this year and CB & LB are probably the only positions we need to recruit now.

formerly known as ivan
Didn't notice this thread so started one a minute ago to say he was outstanding tonight. As for depth we have lewin and Wilson so we do have depth but it is more about the quality I guess
Frenchay Red
Is Louis the best centre half we have? Yes. Is he good enough to play week in week out? Yes Is it likely that he will remain fit throughout the season? Probably not, and that is why we need another quality CB. But at the moment the position is his to loose, and he was so unlucky with the header late on in the second half, would have been great to round off a superb performance with a goal. Chivs
The goal we conceded was due in part to Carey going down injured. He can barely make 90mins now let alone 2 games in a week. We definitely need a new commanding centre back. Having said that, Carey was good tonight.

Very harsh, considering a few other players were down at other periods in the game.
marcofisher
Think the centre back dilemma is a difficult one, especially if we get Amougou! Surely we are not going to try and pay Amougous huge wage demands for more than a year, and also Carey will only be around for one more year! The problem is what will we do next year? Is it likely James Wilson will be required to step up and show he is worthy to start as centre back for the first team? Or will we be in the same situation looking for a new centre back next summer with only 3 of them on our books? And more importantly, Damion Stewart is still here?! Carey 6
I was thinking this myself earlier, though he was brilliant tonight. Only problem being if he does pick up an injury, we don't have anyone to partner Fontaine there, so i would like us to bring in someone else
Nibor
It's not his performance tonight to judge whether we need a new centre half on, it's the state his legs are in tomorrow. The ability is there but sustaining that level for 40+ games is unlikely. We need to be bedding in the next Louis Carey.

Not worth wasting wages on when Bryan can fill in, as can Fonts or Nyatanga, and if he gets a long term injury we can get a loan deal

Fonts is not a LB and Nyatanga is certainly not. If we were lookingto bring in 2 more players , CB & LB would be the positions I'd want to cover. IMO that would give us a more than capable squad with cover all over the pitch.

The ability is there but sustaining that level for 40+ games is unlikely. We need to be bedding in the next Louis Carey. That hit the nail on the head. Louis is a legend and nothing makes me prouder as a City fan then seeing him dive into tackles. No City fan can be in doubt of Carey's quality and I am sure he will play a large roll for us this season, but the questions are whether he can play Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday consistantly. He injury record in the last few seasons has also not been the best. One thing I will say is that I hope he manages to get enough games (19 more?) to become our leading appearance maker. Ignoring how good Louis was tonight I think it is fairly obvious that we still need a big, intimidating, first ball centre half. The kind of player that always got the best out of Louis and will, in my opinion get the best out of Fontaine. The rumours appear to suggest that it will be Amougou and although there are doubts that he may become a Tony Dinning type figure after his excellent loan spell I would certainly be happy enough if the announcement came through that we had signed him. If we get 25 games out of him this season like last night, then i'll happily hold my hands up and say I was wrong. We still need another centre half though as the games he wont be available in, Nyatanga and Wilson are our only choices

Fontaine can't cover for Nyatanga and play a good game and I suspect Wilson also needs to play alongside a commanding player to develop him. Taylor10
most important thing for me is that the other 3 centre halves at the club are woeful long ball merchants who need shipping on as quickly as possible. Wilson, Tango and Stewart are never going to be good enough for this division. I still think Wilson could be a decent squad player but no more I am afraid. As for the other two you mentioned they are just not up to the demands of the championship. Both league one players that I would happily drive anywhere in the country if the club can get rid! I love Louis, when fully fit he is our best defender but he can't go on forever and we can't rely on his fitness etc all season. For me another centre half is an absolute must. Then we will probably have the strongest squad we have had since being in the championship.
Fuber
To be honest; I'm more concerned about the left sided centre half position. If we do need a left back in the scenario Cunningham cant play, and fonts does go LB, then tangs would have to play. Im not gunna lie, but the blokes like a deer in a cars headlights in a country lane, he either freezes or just lumps it. I say get rid of tangs, sign amougou, and a left sided centre back and if James Wilson aint gunna play, loan him out to a league 1 side. And get rid of Damion while we're at it!
