The Humble Realist
To cut through some of the standard trouble related threads on here ... I thought gas contributed well to the occasion, their fans were in early and sang decently for an away crowd... They were poor on the pitch in 1st half but improved in the 2nd to make the game very competeive... They were well organised and in previous years have rolled them over at home but we were defnitly in a game yesterday. Bar the minority of idiots from BOTH sides it was a good and competeive football occasion for bristol ...anyone agree ?
HoldenBall
I agree, thought they played well.. First half they were dire.. but they picked up after both fans caused trouble, but the gas heads can't understand that..
ciderup
I agree as well. In the second half they got right in our faces and didn't give our players the space to play our preferred game. In the first they were standing off and we were bossing the game but once they started applying pressure to our players in the 2nd, they stopped our passing and made a real game of it. Crackers Corner
Its probably rovers fans who didn't go so didn't see their fans Invade the pitch when they scored just as some of ours did. I thought the majority of fans red and blue added to a cracking atmosphere.Thought O'Conner and Reid were imense for us.

I would also say that In previous seasons, had Rovers come back to equalise , as they did second half yesterday, we would probably have rolled over and conceded another couple as our defence disintegrated before our eyes. Ashton Great
I was actually very disappointed by their fans. Considering there were a decent number of them they were very quiet bar about 5 mins after they scored.

dezgimed
From Dolman B, couldn't hear a thing off them apart from 10 mins after their goal. Thought Ro*ers looked absolutely dire in 1st half but gave us a good 2nd half.

Peter O Hanraha-hanrahan
If their fans last night were anything to go by the Mem must be a like a library when they're at home. bakes
I think we played well in the first half, but as the rest of this season so far, had a poor period for a lot of the second half, we are not firing on all cylinders, but show some good football at times. When the all the new players gel this should happen. To be fair to them they are a standard basement team, rode their luck in the first half, but because we never put them away in the first half had a sniff in the second. The atmosphere was brilliant but we need to show a lot more consistency. Thought their keeper was their best player and Ward had them well organised as you would expect. We need to play for the full 90 to have any chance of play offs, if they play like that the rest of the season mid table for them in the basement. Northamptonshire Red
Fair play to them in the second half, it could have easily gone to penalties which they would probably have won. Apart from the handbags at the end, it was a great advertisement for Bristol football.
Miah Dennehy
from where I was sitting, (atyeo) they were very quiet as well. Err, don't you think that might have something to do with the fact that everyone (Rovers and City) was making such a noise that we couldn't hear each other. My ears were ringing from the noise we were making, but I couldn't hear The Williams at all, but you could see(if that makes sense) that they were singing their hearts out. I really don't know why you don't chuck us in The Atyeo, the acoustics in the East End are brilliant!

I was in the eastend as well and thought your fans were like your team poor first Half and improved the second half particularly after you equalised. And trust me you don't want to start that discussion about putting away fans in the ateyo! Though for atmosphere purposes you are correct it's the best stand for acoustics in the ground

Red-Robbo
I thought we made hard work of seeing off an ordinary 4th division side. Actually one of the best sides in that division, with a manager who we know, is no slouch. It was a derby match so, as we know, the form book goes out of the window. The Gas were fired up and gave us more of a game then many of our league opponents will....

Bar the minority of idiots from BOTH sides it was a good and competeive football occasion for bristol ...anyone agree ? To be fair they couldn't have been much worse than their 1st half performance, they were woeful and any impact they had came from our over egging of our passing in dangerous positions, there were a hell of a lot of very timely interceptions inside and around their box, in fact I commented that it was the most passionless gas team I had ever seen against us over 55 years and I forgot O'tool was playing until I saw him fall over. in the second half they did improve and O'tool was fairly instrumental in that turn around, but for some reason we had changed our style to a long ball game and that suited them. However the best thing about last night for me was how we handled their equaliser, we went back to SOD's passing principles and controlled the game once more, last season and the previous 3 we would have lost I am convinced of that. Shorey and O'connor looked good, Bryan and Reid look like real talents and comfortable, ideally we could do with another striker and a midfield leader, we are almost there IMO. eskay
I thought they were poor on the pitch, passing was shocking, they gave the ball away too easily and they were about half a yard slower. Improved slightly in second half but were still poor.
CheddarReds
First half they were sluggish and poor. If we had made it 2 before half time, which we should've been there would've been no threat of a comeback and probably a different 2nd half. Second half they were better and made a game off it, when they put the cross in for their goal you could see it was in. That was my first Bristol derby and I was suprised at how big the gap was at points. Sure it was only 2-1 but we had 59% possesion and we looked very good. As I said above they looked sluggish, especially in the first half and I thought one big difference of the game was the fitness levels and physical abilities. Our lads were much better physically. Red Wardy Returns
I think The GAS are being given far too much respect. They were quite simply laughable in the first half and we could easily have been 4-0 up. Not scoring more was our mistake, the second half they pressed a bit more and scored from a set piece (We really need to get that sorted and quickly, it will be our downfall). When we needed to, we upped our game, made some changes and scored the winner. Could have had a couple more in injury time too. Scoreline completely flattered them and apart from Harrison, the Gulf in class was evident in every single position.
Mighty Squirrel Kingdom
They are nowhere near as good as they seem to think they are. They finished nine points behind Bradford last season, but having seen both of them in the last month Bradford were much, much better.
eskay
A couple of the pundits (and Ward) made me laugh by saying they have given a team who was in the championship last year a run for their money. I think the only regular from our championship team who was in the starting 11 was moloney.

Keith_Lemon
We're crying out for that midfield general, a Paul Hartley. Too many times the ball went onto the wings, we need to learn to pass through the center as I believe we could create some real damage with our attacking options. Aizoon
I thought they played some neat passing stuff in the second half. A neutral mate said that the last time he saw them play like that was on JW's previous tenure. Could have a point, even if he is a Leeds fan.
