Not Quite So Innocent Are They.

They were oh so high and mighty last night, but in the cold light of day they must realise that they behaved disgustingly. That surge towards the Williams was ridiculous, and even worse when you consider that the area they were trying to attack is now a disabled-seating area! They also tried to get onto the pitch in the second half... angels!

Obviously, I'm not condoning the pitch invasion or any of the violence from our 'fans'; I was in the upper Dolman and was looking forward to congratulating the players at the final whistle and sharing in the joyous occasion.

Not there but saw it on tv , I think all football fans feel dirty this morning after a great occasion was tarnished.

It's refreshing to read both forums and see sensible folk condemning the idiots on both sides. Elements on both sides have brought our city to national headlines for the wrong reasons.

The police made mistakes, no doubt, but this should not take away from the acts of the mindless, it is them we should blame, and ban. Whilst there are posters claiming this was nothing more than high spirits, we do not own our problem. By invading the pitch fans were breaking club policy (maybe the law?) we should not tolerate it.

In both sets of fans there was a minority that are idiots and were disgraceful yesterday. The bit that really really really really frustrates me is when either bunch of supporters believes and argues that their set of fans weren't as bad. Only a small minority of fans from both sides were idiotic and it's a shame that these things happend, especially on national tv.

I'm not condoning any of the coin throwing from either side but ultimately it was a pitch invasion with a bit of immature posturing from BOTH sets of fans who probably would've sh1t themselves if the Police and the stewards moved aside and said "go on then".

There wasn't any chemical weapons used or anything.

I've said this in another thread but it's worth saying again.

Invading the pitch is defined as wrong and illegal. Yet fans seem to want to decide when we should turn a blind eye, as in "it's Ok if it's a big game/promotion".

If the club are also happy to use great big pitch invasion photos taken with a swanky fisheye lens in marketing material then what is anyone to make of it and who decides?

Personally I think last night's invasion was totally inappropriate.

100% right. I couldnt get in until the 33rd minute because of the group of 200 rovers fans who (tried to) smash up the miners arms, and then had to be escorted all the way down winterstoke road while trying to have a pop at anything that moved, and I was caught behind them, which also had the effect of shutting off the Hartcliffe Way, Bishopsworth Road, the A38, and all associated routes into Ashton. Do you see Rovers coming out and criticising them, no not a bit of it. Clearly some chav smack-heads were on the pitch, and this is getting all the press today, but Rovers need to know that they had hundreds there who were also intent on causing trouble. Oh but they are the victims, yeah right.

In fact, I am going to contact Bristol Rovers to make them aware, though they will choose to ignore it and blame Bristol City instead.

I'd love this.

Our fans rushuing the Williams to get at the City (Err if only there wasn't an 8 foot wall in the way), and City fans on the pitch being 'held back' trying to get at us. I'm not sure if it's on youtube, but a few years back a couple of our fans ran onto the pitch to try and attck the Stoke keeper, one got nicked straight away, while it suddenly dawned on the other one that the keeper was in fact, quite a big bloke! He slowed right down looking around for the stewards to nick him while the keeper just stayed his ground and stared at him- great stuff!

Funny story, As they scored i stood up on my seat, i was instantly struck on the chest by a bottle of coke, that had i not been stood up on the chair, would have hit the person standing next to me (my girlfriend, Samantha), I inspected the bottle that hit me which to my surprise said on the label "share a coke with Samantha". I found this hilarious and turned to my mrs saying "this was definately meant for you then love" XD

Exactly, Its embarassing the amount of people on City AND Rovers forums trying to make out that somehow the 'other lot' were worse.

So basically:

http://www.brfcforum.co.uk/index.php?/topic/111316-pitch-invasion-and-projectiles-video/#

It's ok for rovers to kick off in the ground because they were being pelted with coins, rovers 'lads' 'done' city after the game and this too was ok because they stuck together and all rovers fans should spread the word that they took city on in their own backyard and came off as top dogs...,

I don't know what happened after the game but from the reports I've heard it was pretty much give and take between rovers firm and city fans sticking up for themselves - am I wrong?

You expect city and rovers fans to blame eachother for yesterdays madness, but a club chairman??

No, I don't expect Rovers and City fans to do that, I'm saying it's idiotic that they do do that. I'm not on Twitter but I heard Geoff Dunford (he isn't the chairman btw) posted some things, but I'm not quite sure what.

Just to clarify.

ANYONE, whether they follow Rovers or City, trying to lay the blame (or more of it) on the other set of fans (or even more laughably on the police), is either deluded, a liar or just plain thick.

City will probably end up getting more of the 'official' blame as they are the home team, and more of their fans were involved (logical really, the ratio of the crowd was about 7:1 towards City), but all this 'they started it' nonsense from both sides, is a load of old bollocks.

Anyone seen dunfords tweets after the game? Made me sick. Congratulations to the gasheads under difficult circumstances. Idiot.

I read his tweet and initially i thought it was a joke, then i thought what a complete Self righteous hypocrite, trying to pass the buck and deflect all of the blame - the blokes a right gem !

He's certainly not the brightest, or sharpest. But he is probably one of the biggest...

....Bristol Rovers fans (of course!).

Yeah, Its not as if Rovers fans have got this reputation of being massive liars is it? Spread the word indeed.

I don't know exactly what happened after the match but like you I heard that they brought about 40-50 of 'Bristol Finest' Gazelle sporting hardmen (standby for YouTube video) who got involved in a few scuffles by the KFC with normal fans. This apparently constitutes a massive result for them and is practically the same as hanging a massive Skull and Crossbones flag over the front of the 3 Lions.

Not that it clears Rovers fans of any wrongdoing, but I was by the KFC when it kicked off, and it did seem more a case of City fans trying to get at Rovers fans on the coaches.

Yet an early report in the EP said Rovers fans broke through police lines keeping rival fans apart?

Ha! Nice try, sunshine - won't work I'm afraid! It doesn't take attention away from "what happened on the pitch" or in plain English, a Gas defeat.

I was on the pitch giving a little banter as they would have done to us and seen a coin just miss a fellow fan in front of me. In retaliation I picked it up and hurled it back in even though my Auntie and a few friends were sat around the area I tossed it (Gas heads), I saw red. Same thing in the stands when a can came flying over and probably hit someone suddenly loads of things got hurled back over....don't know which team threw the first object but once you pop you cant stop.

Wow. Just Wow

Well based on this confession, the club and police will no doubt track you down very quickly and hopefully ban your from the club for a very long time.

I suggest for your sake and sake of others that you avoid situations where you might just "pop"

Very interesting. Confirming what we said last week. Post 12 - fans fed up of the racist EDL element within their support.

After the racism incident with JET last week and comments yesterday it's incredible that we are still the club with the bad reputation

....but your lot are the problem and you just consonantly try to shift blame.

No aggressive pitch invasion to goad the Rovers fans and hurl coins at them = no seats broken in retaliation by the like minded idiots.

Just a reminder that nothing has changed.......

Just your average sag comment

Goodness me . I like like like a bit of banter but the way many posts read on both sides is that we are fundamentally different to each other.

We both live in/come from Bristol and support a local football team. We dearly want to be more successful than the other.

Saying that they have webbed feet is just simple fun, but the way some people go on is simply pathetic.

I find it quite ironic that people will accuse them of being toothless simpletons at best and a lot worse to boot, even challenging their IQ etc. Unless you can do it with a bit if humour I'd wager that your intelligence is certainly less their average - in which case you're bring our average down in the process.

I'm still amazed that a relatively harmless pitch invasion has managed to be construed as worse than the many acts of crowd disorder that occurred in the Rovers end.

What annoys me more is that even if our fans hadn't gone on to the pitch would the incidents in the Rovers end even have warranted a mention from the press? I doubt it and they have essentially got away with behaving far worse than us. Just like their team seems to have got away with being worse than us because they had a bit of possession in the second half - forget that they hardly touched the ball first half.

One rule for them and one for us and I've had a guts full of it.

It also appears we should be the one's proclaiming ourselves as a family club, as this report seems to prove.

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2013/jul/19/football-clubs-on-the-ball

The Robins of Bristol have been recognised as the Football League's friendliest club. The warm, family focused welcome begins on the club's website with a video guide by City legend Scott Murray, and is maintained throughout matchdays by staff who are hand-picked for their ability to make families feel welcome. Oodles of pre-match fun and games are on offer for kids at the indoor community park, with music provided by local bands and DJs. What's more, youngsters attending their first match are awarded a signed cap by a City player.
