Rovers Fans Are No Saints

Having watched on TV and read various Gas Forums i'm gob smacked that the Rovers fans feel that they have been hard done by in and around ashton gate and that they dont have a hooligan problem. Having followed swindon for over 30 years ( I actually dont mind city as been there on several occassions with no problems and shared a pint or two with the locals) I have had more than a few scary moments when they have been in Swindon including one saturday night when we were close to the Mail Coach pub in the town centre when they were smashing the windows. Another time they stopped off on the way to oxford and wrecked the Queens Tap and who can forget a few years ago when we needed to get a win there under Paul Surrock to clinch promotion and several innocent supporters were ambushed whilst drinking in a pub in kingswood before the game . I know City have also caused havoc in swindon over the years but its Rovers who are pleading their innocence. Such short memories!!!

From what I've read on their forum and chuckled at was how we are the 'cancer of Bristol' and they are the most well behaved fans ever. They seem just to want to score points on us with the nation as they have nothing left to crow about, 2007 as their last avenue so to speak and has been closed off.

I am sure fans of Oxford, Swindle, Chesterfield and Wycombe all beg to differ on their views of being the 'family club'

We have idiots they have idiots. Lets move on.

so we may but as been pointed out we don't besmirch them by claiming to be angels with no element at all we all know about our element wouldn't it be refreshing if saggers actually owned up and said ok hands up we have a bunch of Neanderthals too ? and they attack women and children and touch women's breasts in public

What makes me laugh is they continually claim to be a "family club" but have nothing to back this up other then their own deluded, self-righteous opinion, sweeping their own misdemeanours and bad press under the carpet, as high up as the Chairman and former Chairman.

They claim that its only City with the Hooligan element yet we all know the stories that have come out of games with Newport, Oxford, Swindon, Wycombe, Leeds just off the top of my head over the past couple of seasons.

What intentions did 50-100 of their "boys" have going to the Crosshands in Bedminster Down last Wednesday?

Whose fans have invaded the pitch and tried to attack an opposing keeper?

Was the pitch invasion on Wednesday any different to theirs against us in 2007?

If City are supposedly the "cancer of Bristol"...can someone please explain who the GHS are and their "purpose"?

The above link provides factual and independant evidence of clubs who are assessed and can show they have made efforts to improve the matchday experience for "families" including "rid family areas of abusive language and anti-social behaviour" and "ensuring they can enjoy the match in a safe, welcoming and entertaining environment"..........funnily enough, Rovers are not on the list......who would have thought!

Oops......................‎

At Bristol Rovers we recognise our history of being a family club has helped build a strong bond with its supporters, yet we are firmly focused on the bright future ...

Err, I was being facetious. Anyway, I can't be arsed to look but I suspect somewhere there is some mission statement bollocks from City reeling out the old 'family club' mantra, I would imagine every club claims that title.

Just to clarify, I (and many, many other) Rovers fans acknowledge that we have a hooligan element amongst our otherwise generally well behaved support.

Which pretty much every club in the country can honestly say..........so why do so many of your fans and club representatives believe and keep wheeling out this "family club" BS

Why do any clubs? I mean, what is a 'family club' anyway, if it is one where there is absolutely no hooligan support whatsoever, I would imagine there aren't any league clubs who could claim to be one.

Something along these lines....................

The Robins of Bristol have been recognised as the Football League's friendliest club. The warm, family focused welcome begins on the club's website with a video guide by City legend Scott Murray, and is maintained throughout matchdays by staff who are hand-picked for their ability to make families feel welcome. Oodles of pre-match fun and games are on offer for kids at the indoor community park, with music provided by local bands and DJs. What's more, youngsters attending their first match are awarded a signed cap by a City player.

i do hope they got hold of that city fan that spat at the rovers player. disgusting behaviour and not someone who should be associated with city.

I hope they get the 'spitter', yellow tee shirt man, and anyone missile throwing, as for the pitch invaders, hardly worth it, although I would like it if any of those over the age of say 25, who can be proved to be 'giving it the big un' on the pitch (or in the Rovers end) can be identified for everybody else to mock relentlessly at every given opportunity.

We should be given their addresses and be allowed to stand 5 yards from their front door shouting 'come on then' at 30 second intervals.

So I assume City can no longer be considered a family club after the incidents of the other night?

Cardiff??? Hmmm yes, I think that just about sums that up!

For the record, someone mentioned Scott Murray. I had some dealings with him when I was involved with a club in Hanham, and he was absolutely fantastic and very helpful despite knowing I was Gas!
