Rovers Ground Jr Lodged

I can't say I'm surprised, it's all a bit tiresome.

Regarding our new ground I will believe it when I'm sat in it, the countless images on the front page of the Evening Post over the past 30 odd years of how Rovers new ground 'could' look took their toll ages ago.

I actually quite like The Mem (yes really), so won't be too upset if we stay. I know it's a very cliched thing to say, but Bristol? FFS can we please have some sort of facility befitting a city of our supposed status? Arena, tram, football ground- anything!!

Anybody with half a brain knows that it's not SL!

Bloody disgrace that both clubs could be prevented from developments which would benefit the wider area as a whole.

Welcome to Bristol the city where londoners want to turn it into the largest village in europe

Maybe it's time to make a stand? Both clubs merge to be heard? Protest outside of the council houses by CIty, Rovers and the Rugby Club?

Would have been a good idea for Rovers fans to support our initial application rather than start petitions and have links on their forum that were directing people to online petitions against selling Ashton Gate to Sainsbury's.

They'll deny it of course but I can't help thinking that their petty mindedness at that time will mean plenty of City fans have little or no sympathy towards their current plight.

FWIW I'd like to see both clubs get new stadiums, but as I've said many many times, I'll believe it's happening when I'm sat in it.

I'd go along with that. I think at the time there was a lot of upset from our side that SL had said something along the lines of 'Once we get this stadium, no one will mention Rovers', probably a load of bollocks, but once these rumours start, they get legs pretty quickly.

I doubt if a few Rovers fans petty mindedness did have much impact though, once the NIMBYS appeared to be fairly well organised I think your hopes were doomed, although I did think SLs money would have given you more of a fighting chance.

I don't think you will ever get a new ground, but then a re developed AG will still be pretty impressive. We still have a chance of our ground, but I wouldn't bet that much on it.

Agree with the OP. little bit pleased but disappointed too. I want us both to have new stadiums but I don't want the Gas to beat us to it! Assuming we're going ahead with redeveloping AG at the end of this season, we'll be done in just under 3 years from now.

Hopefully this delay for Rovers will mean they're looking at the same time scales, if of course it is a delay and not an ender for the whole UWE project!

When I first came to Bristol 40 years ago there was no good stadium or concert hall. Education and public transport were a joke. From my POV none of these things have improved due to successive incompetent councils.

If Brunel were to turn up in Bristol now and offer to do all the fanatstic things he did do he would doubtless have been run out of town.

Would like to think things will change but unforunately i don't. Nobody seems to have the will to make things happen, including a strangely docile and indifferent electorate.

Ta. They could well have a battle on their hands then.

I'm suprised the sainsburys got the go ahead as they already have a massive tesco's in the area as it is, its different to ours as ours was a store relocation,

etherway I'm disapointed but also happy because of all the gloating they have done about our situation what goes aroound
