1St Time At Ashton Gate

Hi all.

I'm a Wigan fan living in Chepstow & am visiting with my 6 year old son for his 1st ever game. Thought it best to try him out on a decent local side before dragging his arse 4 hours up the motorway only for him to tell me he doesn't like it 10 mins into the 1st half...

We've got tickets in the family stand & was just wondering about good places to park, what pies are best, that sort of thing.

You never know, if he has a great time you might get 2 more regulars.

Many thanks in advance & I'll try to bring along some of that FA Cup luck with me.

Welcome... and I hope you and your son enjoy it.

Can't speak about the family stand but I understand its a fun place for kids and you'll be well looked after.

Lots of off street parking nearby, not sure if the bedminster cricket club still does parking if so that might be your best bet.

Don't bank on great food in the ground but if you like pies I'd suggest getting one from the Clarks pie seller on Ashton road.

As I say have a good time!

Get there about 12, and there is usually street parking nearby, after that, Bedminster Cricket club would be your best bet.

Food in the ground is expensive and rubbish if i'm honest, but something outside the ground, there's a KFC nearby, or cafe's etc on North Street, or you can find one of the nearby vans (there are a few parked just outside some of the turnstiles) which sell decent grub.

Traffic gets very busy in the area before and after the game as well, so bear that in mind.

If you get there early (which I would recommend as it's your first visit), the 'community park' should be open in the old Hirerite building (it's inside the boundry of the stadium grounds opposite the club shop) to keep your son entertained and has been said above, let the club know that it's your sons first game and they'll arrange a hat presentation at half time before the game.... if you're very lucky! (FOC).

Enjoy your day!

(you'll be shouting COYR and OTIB before you know it!)

Welcome to Bristol City FC.

Food in the ground is okay but quite overpriced. Your best bet is on north street which is a couple minutes from Ashton Gate, they do the best Clark pies for next to nothing!

You can park around Ashton Gate but you would have to get there early, if not then Bedminster Cricket club which is always a safe bet.

Hope you and your lad enjoy it!

This free hat business do they only get if they sit in the family stand?

I didn't know the club did such a thing, otherwise I would done it his first V Bradford. Got my 4 year old ST in the EE for this season and he loving it

Oh and hope you and your son enjoy your day and yes please bring some of your FA cup luck with you. We could do getting our 1st league win

The free cap is one per match, so best to check first. I made the mistake of promising my (then 4-YO) son his first match and then checking as it would have been a great way to give him a good first-match experience

being 2-0 up after 20 minutes did it for me instead, thankfully - he's in his third ST season now, almost 7 :)

Welcome to BCFC - and assuming you enjoy it, please come back often!

Whatever you do, DO NOT PARK on the slip road onto and off the A370 towards Weston. It looks ok as there are no yellow lines and there are usually a few cars parked there but it is a clearway with well hidden clearway signs and you will get a ticket. It is a regular earner for North Somerset council who wait until the game is underway before handing out tickets instead of being pro-active and preventing parking in the first place.

You'll fit right in with that attitude! Wise choice, enjoy the day.

Don't bother, and wait till next week and pop up to The Rovers. We have nice pasties, and one song that we sing very well. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

You never read his post properly,

He said, "..... Thought it best to try him out on a DECENT local side ....."

Since when were Sags allowed to come on here and poach potential fans anyway!

Wasn't exactly poaching. He's going to need an awful lot more than a couple of sentences to sell Rovers to someone! Your comments, on the other hand, didn't exactly help sell our club to potential fans either.

You'd better hope he doesn't head over the Non Football chat then and read about Muslims and the EDL!

Don't do it! He could end up supporting City and face a lifetime of misery and disappointment :nono:

If he shows signs of moving in this direction, feed him one of our notorious pies at HT. That should change his mind. Cruel, I know, but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

I manage to park on the st near the ground at 1.30. i'm not telling you where though as you'll nick my spot!

Sorry Dave, but for a Fans Liaison officer, that is a shoddy reply. I know you're a busy man but if you honestly didn't have time to write anything (as others in this thread have done ever so constructively), then IMO you should have not responded until you did have (or had made) time.

Welcoming the person to BCFC and linking to the article in a context that was helpful and friendly would have been the right way.

Little things like that matter when it comes to creating/helping the next generation of fans.

I'll say it because Dave L can't.

P*ss off.

Another bit of advice.

Toilet facilities in the ground (before re-development takes place) are limited and there are always long queues at half-time.

I advise you to use the fairly large public loo over the road on Ashton Rd before coming in, or at least going inside the ground well before K.O.

Hope you both enjoy it. Should be a tough challenge for City. POSH are doing very well so far this season.

Unbelievable! I really despair sometimes!

How many people post on a fans forum and would expect a member of the clubs staff to respond?! The very fact that he responded is a credit to the club. Yes it was brief, but just as helpful if not more so than some other posts.

Fair enough if you don't agree with everything, but its such a bloody shame that our 'fans' will criticise our club and its staff for the smallest of things. That was such a negative response! I hope you get as much criticism in your line of work!
