Snufflelufagus
Hello The weekend got me thinking. Initially I thought is Bristol the worst City in the country for Sport (especially for the size of the City)? City, Rovers, Bristol rugby all terrible at the moment. Now I am challenging anyone to name a worst City (even close in size to Bristol) in the World for Sport. Over to you people.

EstoniaTallinnRed
Tallinn, my adopted city. The best team is Nomme Kalju who were knocked out of the Champions league qualifiers and the national team is second from bottom of their World cup qualifiers group. Mind you, when you consider that the total population of Estonia is only 1.3 million it's no wonder and their national stadium only holds just over 9,000 which is only ever half full even for world cup games. Unfortunately football is not well supported here and needs a big kick in the ass to get it promoted properly.

HarryCardno
It's a good point, but Sheffield ain't exactly great for football yes they've got big teams but ones in League 1 and the other is fighting relegation. However Sheffield is ahead of Bristol IMO due to Olympic success in Jessica Ennis-Hill

Mad Cyril
Havent we got a ladies football team one win away from taking the premiership title? And a basketball team entering the premier league next season. Sadly no facilities for any bristol sports team to play in mind. Our ice hockey team now play in Oxford. So yep conclusion is its rubbish here. I'm moving.

cider-manc
Salford- I believe they are the biggest city without a professional football team in England (insert Man U being in Salford jokes here)? And Salford Reds rugby league team are normally at the wrong end the table.
Corleone
Bristol shouldn't be anywhere near on the list....considering we have the football, rugby and a cricket club in the heart of the city. Hereford on the other hand....
S. Bristol Born & Red
I think Judd Trump will win the snooker world championship in the next few years, does anyone know if he's City or Gas? REDOXO
Bristol is a great City with a great history known throughout the world! However prevailing attitude keeps the City down and this rubs off on our sport and facilities. I have had enough of a rant this weekend regarding AV development to not want to go to far that way again, however suffice to say the lies, provarications and general anti anything attitude adopted by some is soul destroying for many and the fact that the football club seems ready to cut a deal with these doom merchants, that benefits few, for expedience sake sticks in my craw! (The club's position is not stated clearly as it could be so perhaps there is still hope) The City offers a great night out but remains a backwater for many....This town is huge but I have met people from all over the country that think Bristol is no bigger than Bath and not among the largest towns in England and the country!...Its a fact that Bath has for many has Kudos due to the success of their Rugby team....Bristol is now know for a Bridge and Cribbs Causeway! While there has been success in attracting some employers, Brsitolians need to feel more pride in their City and the council needs to have pride in its citizens and support initiatives that have clear majority support. I salute Mr Lansdowne's attempts to try and influence this but luckily for some remaining a backwater is an aim they will brilliantly acheive! If I have upset anyone I'm sorry, but I just couldn't help myself!
Aizoon
Are we talking modern day cities or cathedral cities (I.E Wells) Wells is the only city in England without a railway station - FACT! No, really, it's true.

If I have upset anyone I'm sorry, but I just couldn't help myself! Great post and right on the money Unfortunately, Bristol's main claim to fame atm is managing to stifle just about any form of progress. For the main reason for this, you only need to check out the TVG'ers blog and read some of the smug, arrogant comments by some of the self important ****ts on there to see why we're where we are. In answer to the OP's question, although as others have said, Plymouth are pretty poor sport wise, I can't think of a city comparable to the size of Bristol which is as bad as us, either sporting wise, or in terms of sporting facilites.
