internetjef
Hello all Wider family member needs to get out of house with her current fella asap Has 2 kids and works PT, but has been told will be entitled to benefits Needs to find a place asap to rent, but struggling to find places that will accept someone on benefits looks like all the big agencies (andrews etc) are not interested. Anyone got any bright ones?? Preference would be Bedmo/Knowle area so could be close to other family. Family don't have big enough places to put them up long term. Not trying to start a benefits bashing thread or anything, genuinely wonder if anyone's been through similar and has any tips on where to look? Citizens advice say speak to council for list of landlords who can help > bristol council say there is no such list, and to look at gumtree/trade it > not much on there at present? stuck any advice would be really appreciated cheers
dezgimed
What sort of contract duration is she after?
Eddie Hitler
Unless she is set on private renting the council will manage the housing register for housing association property and being a family with two kids they should get one very quickly. Remember there is no need to accept the first one offered unless they really like it; rejecting one won't prejudice their chance of getting another offer, they'll keep coming. I'm not aware of any council maintaining a list of private rented sector landlords who accept people on benefits.
internetjef
cheers guys will feed this back. Think private rent is the preference but i will mention the housing association priority think she is looking for something asap, but then possibly with view to moving to something better after
The Bard
In order to give you more specific advice, how old are the kids and what genders? It affects the Housing Benefit entitlement. Whereas it's a good thing to put herself on the Housing Register, don't expect that she will get somewhere ASAP. Worth researching about the Deposit Bond Scheme (where the council guarantee your deposit). They have a list of Landlords and you don't pay a deposit. dezgimed
She'll do well to find someone who will let for a short space of time to someone on benefits. From experience the process can be a pain in the ass so longer lets are preferable.
