cityexile
I thought I would keep this updated over the next few weeks, until we have a full list. Following todays results there is now one team, Walsall, who can not mathematically get promoted or relegated, and therefore will be playing league 1 football next year. We are all but mathematically safe, as it would need three weeks of fluke results to send us down on GD, but will leave it until the maths says we are safe. Should be a few more to add after tonight if Peterboro get something. So, to start the thread: 2014/15 League One confirmed teams. Walsall

Clarky89
Think with Wolves and Brentford up, and Yeovil and Barnsley coming down that it will be one of the weaker League 1 line ups in recent times. Fancy Sheff Utd to win it with us among top 8.

Don't think Orient will be anything special if they don't go up this year. Agree with the other three being up there but they are not in the same bracket as Southampton, Norwich, Forest and Charlton who have graces the League in recent times!! Lack of Action Man
I wouldn't write Oldham out of contention next year. Very impressed with the football they play. They just need to learn how to grind out results and play "hard" so to speak. Crawley will no doubt find a way to break their budget again and be in with a chance of contention. And assuming MK Dons stay down, you'd have to say they could be contendors for a play off spot at least next year.
bcfctim
Plus Coventry if they can get sorted out of the pitch (or just avoid a points deduction!) will be right up there. And there's always one side that comes up and does well. But who'd of thought us and Sheff Utd would be in a relegation scrap this year, or Yeovil going up last! Never can tell until the season starts.
cityexile
Indeed. Lose Sammy and JET and we could look very exposed for instance. Going to be a slow burner this one. With Peterborough losing tonight, still only the one team certain of being in league one next year. Swindon suddenly look like they have an outside chance again. Aizoon
Don't like the look of that. With the exception of Sheff U and possibly PNE, we're the biggest club in that list. I fear the worst
Greedo
Looking at that list of teams makes me optimistic for next year. Not getting ahead of myself but I can see the top 2 being anyone from just P'boro, Preston, Sheff U, and ourselves (dependant on P/O outcomes, of course). Sydneybcfc
Now that Wolves are gone i don't think there is anyone in L1 that we need to fear..... However i'm not bold enough to make any sort of predictions on where we will finish, this year i think we had a capable squad but the first half of the season happened and we ended up 12th. It really does need a focused effort from the start of the season for a change and that's down to who stays/goes in the summer. too many times recently we have ended the season strongly with a new manager and let history repeat itself the next season. Do we have a capable enough squad though? 6 loanees got us out of the shite. If none of them sign on. The squad doesn't look quite so good. We need some good signings in the summer if we are not to have a season of disappointment again.
Sydneybcfc
Do we have a capable enough squad though? 6 loanees got us out of the shite. If none of them sign on. The squad doesn't look quite so good. We need some good signings in the summer if we are not to have a season of disappointment again. Living overseas i'm not going to talk about performances (which im aware were often awful) because i didn't watch any games so i can only give you stats. I won't reproduce the table but on games lost we finished 6th, every team from Peterborough to Stevenage lost more games than us. On draws we finished 1st with the most single point returns in the league. Port Vale lost 7 games more than us and still finished above us as they converted more draws into wins. We got beaten by more than 1 goal only 4 times this season, which with a team that couldn't defend is quite an achievement. Does that not give you some hope that we aren't too far from a team that can convert those 19 draws into wins and 10 single goal losses into draws? As i said in my post we obviously need successful recruitment over the summer but neither in the first or second half of this season were we the whipping boys of the league terrified of all the teams we played. I'm pretty sure that at least the players who remain contracted at the end of this season are capable and with the right additions i stand by my remark that we shouldn't be scared. Those 6 loanees certainly helped generate points but at the mid point of the season before they joined we weren't W0 D7 L14. but as ever in football there are a lot of IFs.... Lrrr
Depending how the teams coming down acclimatise to league 1 I think we could easily be around the top 6, the top 10 should be the minimum aim though. I think Donny will be one of those around promotion again, not sure about Barnsley and Yeovil, depends who they lose over the summer if anyone. Purely for a selfish reason I hope Fleetwood go up.
