Producing Our Own Kits

I was reading this and it just furthers my belief we have until we are top 5 gone the right way...

While we couldn't get any training kit for an entire season (if memory serves me right) and had a minimum order we had to sell off for cheap at the end of the season, the big boys have the manufacturers crawling up their proverbials with wad loads of cash. No wonder they use poor suckers like us to reel some of it back in.

Given time I'm sure Bristol sport will produce both quality and in enough quantity that will hopefully stop half the complaints, either way I hope we never go back to a big manufacturer unless they come grovelling with wads of cash to apologise for how they treated us as 'little' Bristol City.

I have heard that Bristol Sport has actually been approached to make someone's kit, a club from nearer London than here. They thought that BS were capable of making original and different kits, however BS of course said that they would not make any other sporting teams kit

I'm sure we can only speculate, but it would be interesting to know why they wouldn't.... If what you say is true, of course.

Maybe they're not ready to expand to that degree, unless it's a non-viable option for whatever reason.

Improve funding for Bristol City by making other team's kit, that would amuse me.

The main reason we switched over to Bristol sport in the first place was because of the catastrophic goings on in the last season before we switched to BS (Adidas?) people said they were weeks late and we weren't kept in the loop at all regarding designs etc

I think until they can sort out their supply chain and get everything running smoothly it's a wise decision. I'd also like BS to only make for teams under BS so that we keep that unique design :)

It could be, perish the thought, it's not being used as a commercial venture (well except to get the 'brand' out there) so there is no wish to expand that side of the business?

I understand that but maybe Bristol Sport feel that they are not in a posistion to be able to produce more kits. Kit manufacturing is now a huge money maker for anyone, but Bristol Sport may not yet have the facilities or links to produce over 10 different kits. They are already producing BCFC, BRFC, BAWFC and Bristol Flyers kits so maybe they will be able to expand in the future.

Those would be valid commercial reasons....  I guess the doubt I had was that you suggested the reason they said no is because they wouldn't make for any other team rather than couldn't.

I agree with what you say in the above posts in that they may not feel they have an established enough operation to be able to take it on.  Would be nice to think that other clubs are looking at us in that light though.

Especially when you read things like this - Adidas basically deciding Man U squad to fit the brand.

Football shirts are good for only 3 things:

1.) Lounging in at home

2.) Painting and decorating

3.) A one off 'Brits abroad' themed stag to Benidorm

Other than those exceptions, grown men shouldn't be wearing replica kits, let alone paying nearly fifty notes for the privilege.

Well looking at how soft Bobby Reid is, I wouldn't be surprised...!

The nans who knit shreddies make them on their day off.

You don't seriously think we are actually producing these ourselves? This is outsourced at probably the same cost as what the Adidas shirts cost us. Highest grossing shirt of city's time is the tfg red shirt, back when lita etc played Everton in the cup. Make no mistake, the bs brand costs a lot to produce.

It's better quality than that shirt though, that shirt sucked

The Bristol Sport online shop mentions Vision when you look at the size chart which points towards the kit being made by Vision Outsourcing http://visionos.co.uk/ which would tally with posts previously that said the shirt was produced in Scotland.

Did you invisage Mrs Lansdown out the back running them up on a sewing machine?? Of course we have employed someone in to make them, it just not a traditional manufacturer of shirts. We also get to brand everything and specify design/colours. It's also cheaper than taking free match day shirt - massive cut of those sold through the shop. They probably cost little to make in the scheme of things. Excellent business by the club
