San Marino vs England

Let's be honest, most of you would criticise if we beat Germany 5 0 in a World Cup final.  Personally I don't understand why people watch just to have a go at them.

Well done Rooney on the record. Sure people will be gutted he got it but got it he has. One of England's most natural ever talents even if the last few years have been slightly underwhelming, only by his standards. Most professional footballers would give a lot to achieve what he has.

Well done Wayne the tormentor of San Marino and the Faroe Islands.

I'd much prefer the statement "Wayne Rooney the tormenter of Spain, Brazil, Germany …"

But we can dream can't we?

They don't support England really, why I don't know, better off cutting the grass or switching off, but don't put a dampner on the proceedings.

Think you're right.

As for 'don't know why' I can be put in that bracket as I make no effort to watch England and can happily do something else whilst they are playing. My reasoning for why - the last 15 years or more have been akin to watching BCFC during the final stages of the championship: void of passion, void of endeavour, void of entertainment and a seeming lack of respect to fans. The straw broke the camels back a long time ago and to be honest I just do not care anymore nor do I consider myself an England supporter. If I do know my own mind it's nothing to do with a lack of success either, I just don't like what English footballers at that level have become so I can't even say I want to support them as individuals.  Raheem Sterling for example, he can chuck on an England shirt but I ain't clapping him; Berahino I dare say in a few years too

I can relate to the national team no more than I can Liverpool, for example.

I know continuity is good for any team but is there a need for players like Milner, jagielka, hart to play against teams like San Marino when less capped and younger players such as butland who are playing well at the moment in the premier league could play to get used to playing in qualifiers.

Ask Joe Hart if he wants England's all time clean sheet record.

Ask Joe Hart if he wants England's all time clean sheet record.

And then tell Joe Hart that the England squad and the cause is far more important than his winning a clean sheet record through default games such as these.

We can see with Hamer, a competent keeper, how important lines of communication etc are. I think goalkeeper rotation is probably the most important from a national team's perspective.

The irony of people complaining that the England players don't give a shit, and then saying that they don't care or won't be watching...

I may not particularly like some of the players involved, but I'll always support any team representing my country.

I appreciate that point of view however I'm just not so nationalistic or patriotic to overcome it. I also appreciate if you think that makes me fairweather but I genuinely don't believe my disengagement due to a lack of success.

I would gladly take a less limited, less successful side if it meant a side to take some pride in.

Only in England do we slam our highest scoring player rather than celebrate his goals.

Charlton was a good player in his generation BUT it was a completely different era! A lot of players were no where near the althetic ability of today's players, defenders badly organised, fat goalkeepers who didn't even wear gloves etc.

Just because you don't have a World Cup winners medal doesn't make you a bad player and I've never heard him trying to duck international games like many other much applauded players.

well done Wayne, there are some Englishman proud to be English and proud to follow our national team, whether we WIN or LOSE.

You'd expect city fans to be more realistic in their expectations, but most are closet glory hunting Manchester United fans so go figure.

Well done Wayne the tormentor of San Marino and the Faroe Islands.

I read an interesting stat the other day, of all his international games, Rooney has only played the full 90 minutes on 44 occasions.

He's been subbed about 56 times and started as sub 6 times...dunno why but I thought that was interesting if true...

Well I'll in in France next year supporting my country.

Not expecting us to win the thing, just hope we play our best and give it everything.

No issues with Wayne Rooney being captain, look at his goal scoring record - it's superb for both club and country.

Saint George says ... Get behind the team!

I think that's pushing it a bit. Good, not superb

It wasn't that decent to watch but putting 6 past the opposition is fine by me.

Oh....just remind me what England's record is in these qualifiers ?

Unless like me you had Rooney first goal and England to win 5-0

we have no chance under Hodgson who should of been sacked after the World Cup disaster.

So true. Fair enough getting a free pass after that shocking display against Italy in Euro 2012 and whimpering out then. He'd only just come into the job. Any other manager of any other country would have got the Bullett after that showing in Brazil. He's been lucky with the qualifying groups. Even Mike Bassett could have got us out of them.

Ridiculous to even try and judge England on that game. If they win convincingly then its the expected result, anything less is ridiculed.

Judge them over the qualifying campaign as a whole. 100% record, and qualified with 3 games to spare. Not the sort of thing we've managed to often over the years is it?

You can only beat whats put in front of you, and that we have done.
