Champion Dung Spreader
"Reporting" on the BCFC 'Buy a Brick' campaign today, the Evil post describes the "rebuilding of the Fred Wedlock stand". I didn't know that Billy was the oldest swinger in town. Does the Evil post have any reporters left or does it just have spotty youths who copy and paste from google? Dollymarie
Does that mean they'll have to give us all the VIP treatment then? Or just him? I'm also one of those who has been waiting for the buy a brick scheme to come to fruition. The club could have been better at communicating to us what was happening to our bricks. I only knew it would be part of the redevelopment as I've attended meetings where it was mentioned, so knew it would happen eventually. A quick letter out to all of us would have been good though. Its a shame they didn't respond to this persons attempt to find out what was going on, but I don't think that he should receive any kind of special treatment given lots of us have been waiting. redsontour
Hmm...so an anonymous "lifelong fan" goes to the "papers" in the week that a video featuring the CEO of Bristol Sport is released in which he talks about buy a brick scheme. Septic Peg
Lifted from BS website:BUY A BRICK SCHEME PART OF NEW WEST STANDThursday, September 10th, 2015Bristol City fans who bought into the Buy A Brick scheme ten years ago will have a dedicated spot in the brand new West Stand, when it comes on line next summer. In 2005 around 750 supporters took up the opportunity to Buy A Brick, raising funds for the proposals to redevelop the old East End.Those plans were subsequently put on hold, with the club pushing for a new stadium at Ashton Vale. At that stage all Buy A Brick names were published in a special Roll of Honour in the Dolman Exhibition Hall. The plaque was removed in the summer, with Bristol Sport halfway through the £45m redevelopment of Ashton Gate, culminating in a 27,000-seater stadium, new South and West Stands and a much-improved Dolman Stand. The West Stand will be a two-tiered 10,500-seat stand, ready to open for the 2016/17 season, and as part of the development a new memorial garden and walkway will be incorporated.Bristol Sport chief executive Andrew Billingham, unveiled these plans in last week’s Q&A Video, saying: “We are looking at forming a memorial pathway, where those who bought bricks will have their names enshrined.“The exact nature of this has yet to be finalised, but it will be part of phase three and the external work on the West Stand.“We will also incorporate a memorial area and garden into this scheme, to act as a focal point for families and friends to gather and remember members of the Bristol sporting family who are no longer with us.“This will also be an opportunity for anyone else to purchase a brick in memory of a loved one." Sargent Pepper
What did people expect City to do? Build the stand anyway just to appease the 750 who stumped up, what was it? £10, £25? If they had instead built a wall or a permanent plaque somewhere it would most likely be demolished by now. When end it's properly incorporated into the new stadium it will be worth the wait. beaverface
So, is the bricks going to be incorporated in the new West Stand or the memorial garden?I would've hoped that it would be part of the stand itself, not something that can get re-landscaped in a few years time? Also, I do hope it's a proper brick and not a stick on brick plate that they have tucked away in the corner at Barnsley and have all subsequently started to fall off and get broken into bits. m42
Yes I too bought a brick for the old stand. Every time I went to the loo in the old RednWhite I used to pause in front of the Perspex plaque with all our names on and look in wonder and awe at the misspelling of my name! So if the club is going to honour all us £35ers then I suppose I had better put them right.
RedRock
Going back even further, when we bought shares was their going to be some board with our names on going to be displayed at the ground? Was that done or am I just dreaming that? Got a share certificate somewhere which must, at least, be worth the paper it is written on.Wouldn't mind buying another brick personally, but it sounds like only existing 'brickies' and in memorial bricks are going to be incorporated in the 'new' plans
Guest
I seem to recall when the original South stand was ditched in favour of AV the club wrote to everyone offering two choices - money back or names to be put on a big plaque. I wouldn't have accepted it anyway,I would feel pretty proud to have my brick in the new stand. However, I can't remember what I wanted on the brick. It was 10 years ago and I am fairly sure I would probably change what I had originally said.I moved around so much my address is not the same. One of each. I choose to wait for the brick to be put in a permanent location rather than have my £35 back. Pleased I did. I'm not sure why the club would send letters to some and not other so pretty sure either people missed the letters or to Royal Mail people need to be asking for compensation from! Either way, I'm sure the letter wasn't the only medium this message was convoyed through. I Really dont see what the fuss is about but there we go.
