Long Term good news?

Sounds like the type of fella that the club should be seeking to employ, but then there have been plenty of them over time. The problem as I see it is the club expects incoming coaches to the academy to make an immediate impact whereas their impact will most likely be strongest on the players that won't be breaking in to our first team for another 4-5 years or so... by which time they've probably been moved on anyway as their successes and achievements are questioned.

Seems rather odd that the club report this as being the first appointment by Paul Groves but that no announcement was ever made of Groves himself being appointed.

The media team's reporting of the Academy really is directionless.

Did I miss the inside story on Groves being appointed?

The new guy - it looks like they've photoshopped his head onto someone else's body....

This is from a Bournemouth fan on another forum

'Groves and Brooks' nickname around the club became Dumb and Dumber. Results aren't everything at youth level, but the results were dire, and nothing was produced under their watch. They were brought to the club in the first place because they were friends with the club chairman at the time, which says a lot. Their short period in charge of the first team before being busted back down to youth (before finally being sacked) brought about some rather depressing times and turgid football (with a very good budget by our standard at the time). They were finally sacked shortly after their chairman friend was bought out and they then had no one in power to keep them at the club.

For further backstory, Shaun Brooks used to coach and later manage Dorchester Town of the Conference South, who were owned and chairmen-ed by..you guessed it..that same former chairman.'

Re the comment Dumb & Dumber I had this from a Bournemouth friend of mine:

Pretty much sums it up. This was during the time Eddie Howe was at Burnley and we got through three managers / management teams in that twenty month period. I think the only kind thing people would say is that they were promoted well beyond their level by our dodgy chairman, who made his 24 year old son Director of Football.

I think you could probably do better!

So looking good ...

Looking marvellous if these reports are as accurate as the ones we received upon SC's appointment. In any case one of them is only coming on board as a youth team coach. In the grand scheme of things a low-ranking role.

Surely that's a very old fashioned view fella...one of the most important roles, is coaching today's youth the correct technique to become tomorrows stars?

Why invest at all, if you don't want the best from your Academy? You may as well scrape the Academy if you don't fill it with the best quality coaches you possibly can.

On reflection can't argue with any of that :)

Wish them all the best, here's hoping they help bring on a glut of talent.

Anyone know how closely Groves will work with Cotts and Elliot?

Be interesting to discover how often all the management of different levels of the club meet and discuss their ethos / coaching methods etc.
