With a 2 week break before the next game we must get an experienced centre midfielder in that the players will look upto and give him the arm band if we had one yesterday he would of dragged the team up the pitch and maybe we would of at least held on if not scored more and not capitulated like we did yesterday

The ball was scarce getting up the pitch because Cotterill had told the wing backs to stay in defence in the second half.

We were set up to try not to concede rather than to score more, and that never, ever works.

I thought I was having a flashback to the last days of Johnson's reign!

When you are playing do deep,  the ball will rarely get out of your half. Particularly if your goalie cannot find a red shirt in his kicks.

And while Bobby Reid is an excellent attacking midfielder,  a defensive asset he is not - which is where we missed Corey Smith.

I'm not against bringing in another central midfielder,  but it was the tactics that sank us yesterday,  not the personnel.

I think there were several reasons the midfield was poor. With the wing backs, Little didn't look fit, and looked like he was wearing lead divers boots, and Bryan had an off day. With such a meagre squad, it was difficult to make effective changes, though Burns could have been brought on for Little. As for Read, for me he's a player who plays well when City are on top, but when things get tough he becomes ineffective. As the second half progressed yesterday we saw him less and less and by the end he was almost invisible.

Agree, though if we cannot find a suitable experienced one I'd be happy simply with getting another midfield option in on loan.

Look at yesterday's squad, one midfielder light and so no one to come on for Reid or Pack.

In the end we replaced Freeman with Robinson, who (although as he has had so little time on the pitch it is hard to tell) seems to be a striker and isn't what you want when you need to keep hold of the ball.

Reid is not up to match fitness i would guess . Always been a little doubt about his endurance but in fairness to Bobby he has never really had a prolonged run in the team.

The way we approached that second half didn't really give Bobby a chance to shine though. It's a reasonable concern, but I think yesterday's second half can be excused. Even on the ball his only advanced outlet was a double marked Freeman or a Hollywood pass to our strikers in the channel.

Why is there no chance of getting him?

££££££. Nolan is a multi millionaire who's next move will be back up north to family roots. His wages would be massive. If we couldn't afford Andre grey wages then we would never be able to afford nolans wages. When big Sam signed him for west ham in championship he was on £60,000 a week on a 5 year deal. Also why would he want to come to us?? Bottom of the league?

Fair play if you got to look at his contract, we wouldn't pay £60k a week, obviously, but he's been training with Leyton Orient and he's turned down a move to France.

If he had a choice of no club or Bristol City I'd like to think he'd choose us, but ya never know the way it's going at the moment!

Oh, and there's a difference between 'can't afford' and 'won't pay' - we most definitely could afford Andre Gray's wages because we have a billionaire owner, but he chose not to bow to his demands, which is fair enough...

hes training with Leyton orient because there manger Ian Hendon was big Sam's first team coach at west ham. We all know SL can afford to pay it , we all remember David James! He would be a perfect signing for us but not sure he would want to come or he fits into wage structure?

Has Bilic been sacked and replaced with Ian Hendon then?!

Nolan might not want to come to us, but he doesn't seem inundated with offers and I can't understand that, he's a strong midfielder who scores goals, and he's a leader.

I remember when West Ham performed a great second half comeback, alot of the players after said it was all down to Nolan's emotional speech at half time....he's a leader...just what we are missing?

sorry meant Leyton orient !!! I agree with you 100% hes a great player who ticks all the boxes that we need, just in my opinion not a realistic target. But no harm in asking!

Yep, apologies Spoons, I knew you meant Orient, sorry for being flippant!

Nolan certainly does tick all the boxes, we attracted Wade Elliott, is it impossible to get Kevin? I'd like to think not...

I think Kevin Nolan is a step up from wade Elliot, no offence to wade. Elliot done a great job for us. Nolans long time in premiership and experience probably puts him on many mangers list of targets. The only team I have heard him being linked to was a return to Bolton. So I suppose if they can go for him why can't we?
