SecretSam
For all those saying we should splash out on some "names": it's reported in tonight's Evening Standard (London) that Rob Green at QPR is on £40k pw. That's what a "name" costs

SecretSam
I'm just saying that there are clubs who can afford to pay that much in our division. They're who we're competing with for new signings. So perhaps we have to take a punt on untested rather than tried-and-tested.

Green, when he signed, was higher stock and QPR were a premier league club. Unfortunately for them it seems they didn't put relegation clauses in their contracts. They are an exception in the championship and may well have the highest wage bill. Just because QPR paid high wages to one former England goalkeeper (where have I heard that before) doesn't mean we can't compete realistically for other players. Green, in that case, is probably one of the top 10 highest earners in the league. I'd hazard a guess that Charlie Austin and Leroy Fer also make that list.
