GrahamC
Newcastle have bought Gayle, Matt Ritchie and a goal keeper for combined fees of around £25m, Sheff Wed have just signed Steven Fletcher and are said to be paying him £35k a week and even Huddersfield, (who look more comparable to us) have just paid £1.8m for a defender. Next season will be tough...

Doubt it, half of the spend today was covered by selling Townsend, Wijnaldum is said to be off for a similar sum, too. They are just operating at a totally different level than us financially.. Lrrr
They'll average around 50,000 attendance a match, add they probably charge more for a match than we they'll make at least double what we do per match day, must help a fair amount, larger sponsorship deals, minus the £13m and wages of Townsend. Given how much Derby spent last year you can imagine Newcastle being okay.
ciderbeans
Very true. Really does highlight the gulf. Surely shows that something needs to be done about it. maybe for clubs that come down that already have a revenue of a certain amount shouldn't receive parachute payments. also shows how important it is to get to the prem at whatever cost even for just one season. The monetary gains and standard of player attained and their sell on value would mean we reach that next level.
EnderMB
£1.8m isn't all that much for a player in the Championship. If we're worried about those prices, we may as well give up now and head back to League 1. With that being said, we'll never compete with what Newcastle can offer. They have a world-class manager, a ground most Premier League teams would kill for, and a dedicated fan base.

JamesBCFC
Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a young winger at Monaco, Cavaleiro or something. They spent €15m on him a couple years ago and he is about the same age as Reid, so would be at least £10m for them to buy. edit- looks like he'll be going there on a loan. Initial links didn't suggest that, but apparently the players missus has put it on everyone's favourite social network. Think the players had injury issues, can see him being loaned out this season before being in the Monaco team next year.

Though you look what happened with Reading and Ola John, he cost Benfica loads, yet came to the championship on loan, he hardly set it alight tbh

cider-manc
To be honest I understand why they came in originally but With the new mega money in the Premiership parachute payments should stop. If you can't get your finances in order when you get £100 million for coming last in the division then you don't deserve any help.
