I'd take SB here in a heart beat, a few months doesn't mean a lot, especially for a team that's in such a mess they were relegated from the Prem for the first time ever.

Football invented in 1992 :)

118 wasted years for Villa before that.

Just being a bit playful.

I'm old enough to remember Villa in division 3 in the 1970's.

I wish I was, hate the entitled brummy *****, Prems been around since before I was born. (1995 )

So you would give SB "a few months" on massive budget - but does that mean LJ gets less/more on a smaller budget? LJ been here a year; two half seasons...one half - kept us up, this season - great start, poor run, now seems to be improving again...

Yes they were there for two seasons but still kept their fanbase. The first season in Div 3 sometimes saw crowds of 35,000 at Villa Park. If one of the London, Merseyside or Manchester "giants" was relegated, I reckon their attendance (and shirt sales) would plummet.

Man City got huge crowds in div 3 not so long ago...they averaged around 30k at home, they even failed to beat the gas in two attempts that season!

And when we did the double over Man Utd in the second div in the early seventies they had ridiculously big crowds, home and away.

No reason to think that would change now...

Yet it means a lot if the manager happens not to be a 'big name'? While 'with the money he has spent and the squad he has he ought to be doing much better' applies to LJ but not Bruce?

Yup much more spent than us(a lot spent before he got there tho tbf) and only 4 points ahead of us in the table. Big names do not guarantee anything. Though I would get the argument for him. I'd have taken Garry Monk and many thought he may be a bit overrated but has done well at Leeds.

The 'proven championship/premiership experience (and very good experience) was what swayed me

Its sometimes better for crowds when you are winning in a lower division, rather than getting battered every week in a division you are not quiet good enough for.

Aston Villa are in trouble I think they have lost 5 of there last 6 and they are only 4 points ahead of us. Bruce will be under pressure because they have spent 60 million +. Will be interesting to see what happens when we play them...

we'll do what we usually do against teams on dreadful runs, turn them around

Interestingly if you use the fishy championship predictor and just let it do its thing without altering anything it has us finishing above Villa!

Big manager - lots of money - poor results - still want him?

Villa are a basket case and have been for a while. Bruce has won enough promotions from this dovision for me to think he would be good here.
