Yep , he wasn't much good at Brighton either .

Makes me think that there is a huge element of luck with managerial appointments.

I think Clough paid Credit to Peter Taylor for a lot of his success.

Nothing like a good number two :P

For some managers, the many different variables come together in certain situations that make their time with a team an unprecedented success.

Examples - Ranieri at Leicester last season or Coleman with Wales at the last euros.

Is it luck? Who can say, but when it does happen it creates history.

Ok - I don't want this to fall into Racists comments etc. But I am amazed that the number of non-caucasian players does not seem to have any correlation in the number of coaches / managers. I cannot think of many, and of the ones I can three are on that list of worst managers. It just seems very strange.

There has been the suggestion of implementing a Rooney Rule like the Nfl.

I am not sure if requiring people to like the Rooney Rule is the way to go, but maybe something to encourage more people / players to train and gain coaching qualifications - then let the talented filter into the game.

I always thought it would be great if you had something like the academy system bt for coaching. You would have to be accredited (like the academy) and then could administer the first few FA coaching badges. Clubs who signed up would increase their chances of picking up good experienced players coming to the end of their careers and it would present more of an expectation of keeping skills and experience in the sport.

I read BC's biography a few years back. The one thing that sticks with me is the chapter on Peter Taylor.

I seem to recall BC actually said that. His love and appreciation of Peter Taylor was evident.

Two great men, the likes of which I doubt we'll ever be fortunate to see again.
