Managed to knick Matt Hill's shirt during the final game pitch invasion that season.  Still have it at my folks' place, I should think.

Remember at the time thinking Danny Wilson brought a real, professional image to the club.  Also that he had a 'Lego Man' head.

How did Tinnion not play at a higher level? His passing range was out of this world.

Probably lacked a tiny bit of pace and a right food of any use other than standing on

Who was Dunning? I thought he meant Dinning ,but another bloke said Dunning as well .

And what happened to Clist, he looked good.

Darren Dunning, we had him on loan from Blackburn.

I wish we still had James Brown played over the PA system when we score!

Weren't West Brom going to sign him  for £10m?

Not a lot. Just looked and after a loan to Torquay Clist  went to Barnet on a free, then FGR , Oxford and Hereford. Only played 379 games and 71 for us, 6 goals (29 all told).
Thought he looked decent and had promise, which only goes to show what I know about football.

Brings back memories and I like that season's kit. We had some really good players (Tinnion, Thorpe, Murray, Bell etc) in that era but ultimately it was a period of underachievement because we were in that division for far too long. I'd forgotten that Aaron Brown was excellent when on form, but he had too many games when he was anonymous.

Apologies for my usual write up of the season not appearing yet. My PC has changed the format of all Word docs, so I cannot open any of them :grr:

A few more days and the problem will be resolved.

Take your time @22A , having a few issues of my own. The rest will be in 2 more parts (first one tomorrow or Tuesday ) so if you wait until the last one I'll stick them all together.

That squad was great. Just shows how hard it is to get promoted from any league.

I think one of the biggest reasons we got stuck down there for so long was the strength of the division during those years. That season, the champions were a Millwall side containing Tim Cahill, Lucas Neil, Niel Harris and Mark Livermore. That was an insanely good squad for that level. Then in the following couple of years there were the moneybags Wigan and Cardiff, a Dean Ashton inspired Crewe side and traditionally bigger clubs like QPR and Stoke. The Wilson squad would have gone up if it had peaked a few years earlier or later.. I doubt we'll see a league 1 as strong as it was in the early 2000s again.

That said, 2004 should have been our year and there was no excuse for bottling that in such pathetic fashion.. First auto, then the playoffs. It still hurts thinking about it. :(

Always what I have said. The top 6 in that league between 2001 and 2003 in particular was very strong and had players that went on to regularly play in the Prem.
