Admin Phantom Posted July 26, 2017 Admin Posted July 26, 2017 Interesting piece put together by a Fulham supporter about the price of following their side this season: On a day when the government announced a surprise sharp decline in inflation, it was ironic of Leeds United to announce that Fulham’s travelling support would be charged up to £42 for the upcoming Tuesday evening clash at Elland Road. Ever the cost-cutters, here at Fulhamish we’ve decided to get the calculator out, and attempt to work out how much it would cost you to attend to every Fulham away league match this season. Particular thanks must go to Harry Fremantle, who helped us to compile much of this information. At this early stage of pre-season, this is a little tricky, but we’ve done our best. Here’s how we’ve done it: Match Tickets: The majority of Championship clubs have announced their ticket structure for the 2017/18 season. Where clubs haven’t done this, we have used last season’s ticket prices. Due to their relegation from the Premier League, this hasn’t been possible for Hull City and Middlesbrough. Train Tickets: We’ve calculated the on-the-day train prices as well as those available 3 months and 1 month in advance. For Cardiff, there are no trains available. Return train travel is not available for Leeds and Sheffield United, so we have factored the cheapest available hotel into the cost. Car: We have calculated car travel at 20 pence per mile, from Craven Cottage to the respective stadium and back again. Disclaimer: All this research is to the best of our knowledge, and we are more than happy to update our findings if necessary. Tickets Clubs with a * have not officially published their 2017/18 prices Championship ticket prices range from £19.25 to £39 Opponent Ticket Reading £20.00 Leeds £37.00 Ipswich £30.00 Burton £20.00 Nottingham Forest* £19.25 QPR* £29.00 Aston Villa* £30.00 Wolves* £30.00 Sheffield United £27.00 Brentford £25.00 Sunderland £30.00 Cardiff £23.00 Hull No info available Middlesbrough No info available Barnsley* £28.00 Bolton £28.00 Bristol City £27.00 Derby* £22.00 Preston £24.00 Norwich £35.00 Sheffield Wednesday £39.00 Millwall £26.00 Birmingham* £20.00 Average Ticket Price: £27Total Ticket Cost: £623 Train You can save up to £93 by booking train fares in advance. If our research proves anything, it shows that if you are a train user, booking in advance can save you serious cash over an entire season. One other important aspect to point out, is that a car goes from being one of the most expensive to one of the cheapest options, when just one paying passenger is added to the equation. This of course, doesn’t take into account other inevitable costs you will incur on your away days, from unavoidable costs such as food and parking, to more voluntary purchases such as match-day programmes and alcohol. Twenty’s Plenty Much was made by many Fulham fans, of Leeds United’s decision to charge Fulham fans a minimum of £37 to attend the upcoming fixture at Elland Road. The Football Supporter’s Federation have been pushing their Twenty’s Plenty campaign for some time now, in an attempt to limit away ticket prices at £20. So far, this has lead to all Premier League clubs charging only a maximum of £30. Still quite expensive you may claim, but it’s a vast improvement on the extortionate prices that were around only a few years ago. This pressure however has not resulted in any action in the EFL. So we thought we’d do one more bit of research, how much would you save if each away ticket were limited at £20? Opponent Ticket Saving Reading £20.00 Leeds £37.00 £17.00 Ipswich £30.00 £10.00 Burton £20.00 Nottingham Forest* £19.25 QPR* £29.00 £9.00 Aston Villa* £30.00 £10.00 Wolves* £30.00 £10.00 Sheffield United £27.00 £7.00 Brentford £25.00 £5.00 Sunderland £30.00 £10.00 Cardiff £23.00 £3.00 Hull No info available Middlesbrough No info available Barnsley* £28.00 £8.00 Bolton £28.00 £8.00 Bristol City £27.00 £7.00 Derby* £22.00 £2.00 Preston £24.00 £4.00 Norwich £35.00 £15.00 Sheffield Wednesday £39.00 £19.00 Millwall £26.00 £6.00 Birmingham* £20.00 Twenty’s Plenty Saving Total = £150 Whilst this might seem low compared to the figures we witnessed above, this actually as much as 11% of an entire seasons spending for those who attend every away fixture, and would no doubt make the cost of attending away games much more appealing to a wider number of people.
Red Army 75 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Ridiculous amounts of money. We're expensive at 27 quid . Leeds and sheff wed . That is atrocious. 20 is plenty
ZiderEyed Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Id take a 150 quid saving. Shocking that clubs are allowed to get away with this shit
Shtanley Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Good to see virgin media include a twentys plenty banner in their recent advert.

Monkeh Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 good to see we are in line with the average away ticket price well done club, bad the act the average away ticket price is £7 too high, sort it our club, No one should pay more then £20 to watch a match in the championship full stop.
Admin Phantom Posted July 26, 2017 Author Admin Posted July 26, 2017 Apologies for the size of the font - made it smaller but the line spacing stayed the same so looked even worse
RedM Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Yes we are average but only because there are teams costing more and less, I think our prices would have come out a bit more on the high side if I'm honest. And yes £20 is enough to pay. I not doubting the figures provided, just skimmed through but does it really cost £12 to go on the train from Fulham to Brentford, seems a bit high to me.

Best decision I ever made!

Packman Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 I think we should charge what the other teams charge our fans, so £40 for Leeds unfortunately and £20 for reading. I know it's harsh on certain fans but this would soon speed up the 20s plenty campaign.

Not a clue then, £30 is cheap for Ispwich, been put off from going before due to their ridiculously high prices. Here's the article, was meant to be £25. http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2017-06-30/ipswich-town-offer-to-cap-away-ticket-prices-at-portman-road/ Says on their forum here, that 12 teams have agreed to it. https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/31890/away-ticket-price-cap-agreed-with-12-clubs
Offside Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 That list of ticket prices really hammers home how ridiculously expensive it is to watch football. £20 should be the absolute maximum for away fans.
wendyredredrobin Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Football is a commercial business. It's only by charging high prices that clubs can continue endulging the overpaid prima donna's we call footballers. At £20 per ticket, we couldn't compete at this level unless a price reduction put a lot more bums on seats or was across all clubs. Personally, i would love to see all tickets capped at £20 and a full stadium every week, but it aint gonna happen.
SARJ Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 The problem with modern football lies with the melts who hand over their cash, namely, the fans. Fans who blindly follow their club regardless but declare this ideology as 'devout hardcore support'. The only way to stop this whole 'money ruling football' business is to vote with feet, but it'll never happen. Arsenal fans are consistently moaning about how much they are charged for tickets, food and drink in the stadium, merchandise etc. It's simple. Don't turn up, don't pay it. Eventually things will change and clubs will get the picture. But the era of the 'superfan' has killed that idea sadly. Every season people moan about the cost of replica kits, but yet people are logging in online and pre-ordering before it's even released. BCFC fans are as guilty of this as any judging by recent OTIB threads. Truth hurts but it's these sort of actions that has made football the way it is today.

Agreed, especially if you consider as an away fan you are placed in the worst area of the ground.
weepywall Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Am I missing something here, why cant they get a train to Cardiff ?

The fact that you can buy season tickets at Bayern Munich/Dortmund etc for about £150 and their players are paid substantially more than ours means that you're talking nonsense. Huddersfield and Bradford have reduced their prices dramatically over recent years I suppose that means they aren't competing???

I'm perfectly happy paying £17 a game for my Dolman seat. My pint in the ground is cheaper than the pint at my preferred local pub to Ashton gate. I think replica kits aren't too badly priced. Yes they could be cheaper and the annual changes give them something of a "shelf life" if keeping up to date really matters to you. For quality though, you won't get much better for £40 from many places. So, whilst you like to think of me as "a melt" I'm quite happy with what I pay to follow the pass time that I'm most passionate about (that don't include women!) Pay on the day/away prices can be a bit steep, I agree.
