I'm happy that Engvall isn't working out

Yes that's right . I am glad that Engvall hasn't slotted effortlessly into the first team to replace Tammy .

The reason is that with all these statistics , videos , sports science etc the game is played by human beings with all their qualities and failings .

Thanks Gus for the reminder.

Good luck to you and I hope you make it with us or wherever you are happy .

I too am similarly delighted when an expensive highly-paid signing turns out to be useless; it gives me a nice warm glow inside.

We all think fondly of a past player that I can only refer to as "the master":

Full name Nicholas Isaac Hunt .

Engval will be back when the Swedish league end in November.

He's playing at a decent level, getting fitter and gaining crucial experience. Just what all young players need especially when they're down the striking pecking order.

I think I understand what you're saying.

It gave me a little shiver when Little Johnson says he was signing the new Swedish kid based on the statistics before seeing him play.

I must be too old school.

Yeah, and if he doesnt settle due to the physical nature of the league, which the stats wont cater for, i will write to rhe 2 people in charge of recruitment and suggest rather forcefully they reconsider their positions.

Isn't it just great that human beings can't be transformed into mere numbers and statistics ?

How boring would football be without this unquantifiable element.

How do you measure spirit, emotion, mood ?

I always sell him on Football Manager for whatever reason

He turned out really well for me. Scored the winning goal in the playoff final in 18/19 to send us up. Sold him to Villa in Jan 2020 for £8m.

Am I the only one that from what I have seen he is bang average..happy to be shot down and won't  care...just a genuine question..he has looked utter pony trap to me whenever he has had a chance

Worst starting post I've seen in a long, long time.

I'd rather every player we signed worked out. If the game and analytics are surpassing your understanding of the game, get to a casino and play roulette instead. There's something you won't need to try and understand.

Statistics and analytics game have a huge affect on the production of anything, especially sports teams progress. If you think we'd be better off without them then you're very much mistaken.

Take a look at the movie Moneyball for a really basic look at how one change can have a huge impact on a team's progress.

You probably can physiologically, through brain scans and psychological testing.  Research findings are still disputable, though.

I suspect professional football clubs more predominantly and inadvertently rely on the innate emotional intelligence of scouts, coaches and managers as well as the tried and tested approach of tapping up contacts and gleaming reputation i.e./ "ere, you used to play with player x in the academy at Arsenal.  What was he like as a person?

Who Smudger? Good lad, boss.  Proper bants.  Sign him up I would!".

There was an interesting article on here lately suggesting clubs are doing a lot more profiling than they used to (and why wouldn't you if you're about to fork out six, seven and eight figure sums?).  How true that actually is across all clubs, I really have no idea.

My colleague who takes interviews says he looks for three things:

1)Can they do the job?

2)Would I want them around me in a crisis?

3)How are they going to fit in with other staff?

I suspect that's a fairly standard blueprint in most jobs.

I agree with Robin TBW as well though.  Really, a football manager should build as big a picture as possible, I should imagine.

Clearly a lack of understanding on your part  Robin and for that I'm sorry.

I just wanted to highlight the fact that amongst all this science and statistics which seem to imply that an athlete can be quantified it is , for me , refreshing that sometimes the human element comes to the fore.

You are , of course , entitled to rubbish my opinion.
