So with the signing of leko. Seems to be an exciting talent with pace . So do people think our business is over for incomings . No keeper or midfielder. As for outgoings obviously the Flint saga isn't over . But do people expect any surprising outgoings . IMO we've done well this summer on signings . Thoughts

Posted

Golbourne hopefully for his sake, Magnússon possibly if Flint stays, Expect Hinds to go on loan in terms of outgoings. Would ideally like another CM and ST but seems unlikely especially the ST after the Woodrow signing.

I think we would listen to offers for Golbourne, Flint, O'Neill and sadly Hörður. Cannot see a goalkeeper or midfielder coming in unless at least two of those leave.

i'm happy with our business but think there are still areas where we need to improve...

I would think we might see some more u23/ academy signings like we did with Hinds. I think the strategy is to stockpile players at that level and see which ones pay off.

Posted

If we could get one real quality midfielder I think it would make us very strong. If you look at that area we have pack Smith heglar who could be out for a spell injured plus injury prone O'Neil. Get another injury and we are very short.

Posted

I think thats our lot now. Would've liked to have seen a little extra cover for FF but honestly doesn't worry me too much.  don't think our midfield looks that bad now with the options we have available such as Brownhill moving more central. That said though, this IS football.

We have needed a commanding centre mid since they stopped producing the Austin 1800 Land Crab. So I would say that is still priority.

Elliott was good for a while as was Wade but nothing comes close to Gerry Gow.

There normally is a `boom` moment either incoming or outgoing. Is Leko it for this window or is there going to be a huge outgoing surprise - Marlon or someone like that?

What a great car that was . I loved ours.

I think the squad is too big and needs to be trimmed by about 5 players. That said a great commanding central midfielder would but releieve pressure on the defence and shore us up a bit and probably solidify a midtable place for us.

I loved that huge big seat at the back and that long milometer that seemed to go into the passenger side of the car.. We had two including one where the big end went on the night we went up to, of all places, The Hawthornes and won 1 nil... 1976 I think.. Jimmy Mann or Tom Ritchie.

How about we try and adapt one of the following three for that role... Flint... Foot work not good enough?... Hegeler... Not fast enough some say or Magnússon? Now there is a thought...

Would like to see Flint and Golbourne go and a couple young players like Hinds, Morrell and Moore get good loans to the football league. I am sure they are looking still and if a quality keeper or centre mid became available I'd hope we'd look into it. Other than that, I'm happy with our business and just hope we have the goals in us.

We had two as well . I loved the bench seat at the front , as well as the speedometer.

That big ol' bus could motor and held the road well.

The first my Dad chopped in for a Vauxhall Victor when the clutch started to give up. Heap of crap that was.I've never forgiven his total lack of judgment since that day.

Later on we had a purple , I kid you not , Land crab in Wolsley guise .

They don't make'em like that any more .

Wade ok, but surely you meant Hartley not Marvin, probably the most overrated midfielder to put on a City shirt in the last 30 years! An occasional threat in the air, but couldn't pass and had no idea what was going on around him. Most of the tackles that were raved about were made 30 yards further down the pitch than they should have been, as he let the guy run off him in the first place. But that's what you get for converting an average full back into a below par centre mid.

Posted

There seems to be an expectation that Hinds will go out on loan. It would seem a bit odd to do that AND bring in another youngster - Leko - on an incoming loan. I accept one is a striker and the other apparently a winger, but it would still feel like one deal cancelling out the other. I'd rather Hinds stayed and got his chance when form or injury dictates.

Hartley was good but the fact I mentioned Marv and you have pointed out his weak points only highlights further it has not really been since Showaddy Waddy took to Top of the Pops that City had a truly commanding midfield ace.

Must mention Bobby Kellard too,  when strong midfields are discussed can't leave BK out of it ...they didn't come much more bulldog like than City's Kellard... small, stocky, hard as nails. Kept the midfield engine room ticking over nicely..

Johnny Quigley is also deserving of a mention.

Yes, Sweeney. My bro confirmed it too and I remember him talking about it. The win was the least my bro and Dad deserved coming back in a tow truck that night.

Joe has played in cm before and done very well-could be a "little experiment" for Lee,with Magners filling left back...could be worth a try.

Bryan OK but not the commanding type. Maggs at left back? Not sure he is very comfortable there.

And btw, they were very accomplished rally cars hence the name.

For me , when the white Victor arrived it was like the death of quality coach built cars.

All plastic , lovely vinyl seats , black nylon carpets ( an extra I believe ) replacing the leather  and wood trim and velour carpets of the Austin.

The rust appeared around the boot sills after about three weeks !

Bag o' shite .

I'd like to give our own 'hungry' (hate that phrase) kid a go, who else do we have that smashes screamers from the edge of the box.

if we're really buying into our youth setup someone like Hinds should be given time with our squad.  Maybe he's the real deal, maybe not, but give him the chance.

Woodrow ain't going to be the player that pushes us into the top 6 is he?

I hear you and so would I but Taylor just came back and maybe it would benefit his development more if he went on loan somewhere

I don't know the answer, I guess I just think if we're going down the route of the youngsters let's do it. Shit or get off the pot as the crude saying goes.

We're not buying, or even loaning, players for a push to the Prem which is fine, but let's follow through on at least some of our stated aims.

Hinds going whilst bringing in Woodrow would suggest we're doing everything half heartedly, what a surprise.

Ah, Yes. Now you mention it, a name I haven't seen for some time.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find your 'profile history' (computer illiteracy ), only your current status, i.e. that you are male, live in 'Swad'?, and like to drink and eat curry. Great . Ten Minutes Of Rough - remember him, and where is he now anyway? - would be delighted, I am sure, that you fit the stereotype in to which he placed you due to your childish, obscene choice of poster name  . I was also in his bad books as I confessed to finding a certain Roy 'Chubby' Brown sketch funny.

And @Riaz? Areyou still here?

I really think we missed the boat in not signing John Terry. I know his wages are astronomical but his presence on the pitch would've allowed us to play an extra outfield player. He is the best sweeper-keeper in Europe and saved more shots on target last Friday against us than that superfluous player in the different coloured shirt Villa employed between the sticks.

Perhaps let Lucic go on another loan if we land a keeper. And make room for a CM if one comes available!
