Heading in the right direction

As city fans I'm sure we are all guilty of being Pessimistic. Talking to my mates today (Forest and Norwich fans) I suddenly felt quite proud of our club and there's plenty to be excited about. A few of the things that made me feel like this are below....

We had an awful run last year and some fans, rightly so, voiced their displeasure. Credit to Mr. Lansdown who bucked the trend of every other club in England and backed his man. This can only make LJ even more determined to repay him, or,  if you take a different angle make our club an attractive team to manage.

Ashton Gate - Still needs the finishing touches but what a place it is to go now, a stadium to be proud of and thank god we don't have a generic bowl like most other clubs.

Next is how we are doing business in the transfer market. Tammy was the obvious standout but that has led to clubs wanting to lend us more promising talent. If Leko has half the season Tammy had this could be a regular feature. Nathan Baker is another deal that made me sit up and think "how have we managed that after last year?". The squad has now shaped into a 4-4-2 ish look with depth. LJ has played a master stroke with Bobby - credit where it's due. The width issue has been addressed with 4 wingers now in the ranks. Hopefully Brownhill will now move into the middle and give us the energy we lack. I really wanted a new keeper but Frankie is making me eat my words. Steady improvement is what we should aim for this year and next summer will be even better.

Finally, what pleases me the most is that the academy is really starting to yield. I'm always proud to see Bobby and Bryan in the starting XI and it looks like more will soon be following.

We're not perfect but we are heading very much in the right direction.

Thats the bit I just don't get.

We can't produce a player for every position. 1 or 2 every few years is above average. It seems like we are going to try and play a high pressing game and as such the wingers will need rotating

the academy is not yielding in every position - hence we use the loan market. It is though providing players who can progress to be long term first teamers as one would hope it would.

As others have said, we won't have academy graduates for each position every year.

What is exciting now though is we have 2 academy graduates in direct competition for left back.

When was the last time we had competition from two academy players for the same spot?

Good to see your so happy. But a case could be made that we are not moving forward. I think the real truth of the situation will unfold as the season progresses. I believe it is far too early to judge.
