Robbored Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Haven't seen a thread on this book which I've just finished reading. It's a very decent read and gives great insight into the life of top referees. Its very honest and amusing in several places. In fact I laughed out load several times but it's made me appreciate just what these professional referees go through on and off the pitch. Webb highlights his doubts about his own performances, the highs and lows of what a stellar refereeing career. A top read if you enjoy sporting books.
pride of the west Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Did he confirm whether or not he had Christmas dinner every year with Fergie?

shelts Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I've met Howard a few times and he a lovely guy , very funny and humble . He deserved all the top games as he and his team where miles ahead of any ref team in the world .

So is his admission of his inner demons that troubled him. It really is a fascinating read. I can't reccomend it highly enough.

You could if you get yourself a ladder and shouts it from the rooftops... that'll be high enough. (PS it sounds pretty good btw ... )
Robbored Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Clattenberg gets lots of mentions in Webb's book.so does Graham Poll............

Every time I finish a set of stat accounts I get the balance sheet tattooed on my arse. In fact it's become my biggest asset.

It's still on my bookshelf and agree with all you say about him. a very good read. Another good book I can recommend, no doubt you remember him, is Trautmann's Journey by Catrine Clay. Subtitled "From Hitler youth to FA Cup legend.

And also none of your business.

So have I missed something, has Howard Webb signed for us as a player? I thought anything non-City related, especially if that someone isn't part of the clubs current staff wasn't allowed on here & you in particular would have no interest in such a person?!? It's no wonder people post various football related topics on a football forum when the self-appointed forum 'God' can make up his own rules to suit himself!
Robbored Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 What on earth are you on about Tipps?

From there, if they're rated highly enough they reach FIFA level and from there to FIFA. But if you're not interested then ignore this thread......

Erithacus Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 By way of an intermission, I recall the phrase "Clattenburg porn'. It has to be in, but you can't see it. As you were...

Fans jumping to the wrong conclusion is exactly what pissed him off........he sees it as them questioning his integrity and the integrity of referees is sacrosanct. In the book he says he only actually met Ferguson twice in his entire refereeing career.
downendcity Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 So Howard Webb was the subject of the Michael Jackson song - never knew that.
handsofclay Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I bought this book recently as it is reduced on the kindle monthly deal for this month. Thanks for the recommendation, I am now looking forward to reading it.

Erithacus Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 And I see Mr Webb has now left his wife and three children last year and gone off into the sunset with German referee Bibiana Steinhaus. Integrity? Hmmm.

Owl Visiting Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Claim to fame - Howard Webb is my Uncle's Mum's cousin. I've been told that Howard is his mum's maiden name (useful if you ever wish to defraud him), which is how they chose his first name. Never met him.
