Looking at it another way

Given that we are in a nearly identical position to last season after 11 games - slightly better GD but that`s the only difference - I thought I`d have a look at the match-ups from last season to see how we are doing compared to the same fixtures last season.

I have to say, it actually makes pretty good reading!

16/17                             17/18

Barnsley H    won            won

Brum A          lost             lost

Norwich A     lost             drew        +1

Reading  A    lost              won        +3

Ipswich   A   lost               won        +3

Villa         H   won              drew      -2

Brentford A  lost               drew     +1

Derby      H   drew             won       +2

Wolves   A    lost               drew     +1

Obviously we didn`t play Millwall or Bolton but we had won at Burton and beaten Wigan so I`ll give that a  -2

So we are seven points better off than the results we got in last season`s corresponding matches which I believe shows we are much improved this season.

I went to Brum away and we were superb first half

Pity we didn't show up 2nd half as we would be unbeaten

Ha!

The negative person in me looks at that and the Millwall game when we played well in the second half and Bryan crashed one against the bar and thinks....but all teams can point to those games.

On the positive, this is still better than I expected.

In the remaining 35 games in 16/17 we amassed 34 points.

Not on the cards this season. Simply won't happen with this team.

Difference between the starts is last season although we were winning, Fulham & Villa games aside, I didn’t ever feel like we were bossing games.

This season we are well in control of games.

I think we have the players and the confidence to impose our game on others, seeing this especially at away games where teams least expect it. We are of course aware of the opposition but not totally worrying about them which we seemed to be doing for much of last year, we are setting up to play our game not theirs.
