numbeast
Wouldn't it be great if, just for one season, we could give 100% backing to 100% of the team with no one getting on indiviuals backs. The number of times I've sat in the Gate listening to "Fans" slagging off our own players is crazy, and it doesn't always matter how they are playing. I'm sure no one has a bad game deliberately but when they do why not give them encouragment not #####. Come on all you Reds fans back the team not slag them off. Rocky
City fans have always been known as fickle however I think as a whole we/they are getting better. I am sure it happens in all football stadiums every Saturday at 445!

Why bother going? I think you are talking to the wrong people. Most people on here have maintained they always give total backing during the game; leave their slating for here. But, this forum is a small part of the crowd. You will always get munters determined to criticise players no matter what. I always find it easier to maintain my own standards of what is right and leave others to find their own.
Guest maidenheadred
Interesting point this raises though is who exactly will the ####### shout abuse at this year? They had Aaron, Burnell and Peacock last year - but they're all off! I've even heard a few IDIOTS shout abuse Matty Hill for his distribution (so what? he's a defender) but even assuming he signs, I can't see him being the main target. No - there is *alway###### somebody that the Bloke Behind You with the big mouth and small brain wants to vent his anger at: the only time that doesn't happen is when we're top of the league by loads of points (and for all the will in the world, that ain't happening next season - not at the start, anyway). My prediction is that Murray will start the season at the same sort of pace as the last, and will be the new boo boy of choice. Second favorite is Wiltshire. Of course, there will always be a special place in the heart of the Bloke Behind You for any City striker who dares not score a goal a game - I have a feeling Roberts won't start next season, so it won't be him, but perhaps Miller's averageness will mean he comes in for some stick? Depressing subject maybe, but you know it's going to happen....
Guest Neo
Wilkshire will be a target no doubt. I don't like him myself, but, I won't criticise him during the game. He came with a big price tag and things were expected. If he doesn't come back from the olympics firing, patience will wear thin.
Guest swindlered
The authorities are slowly getting to grips with racism and language at grounds. Slagging of your own team is perhaps the last refuge these bigots have. That said I know that from time to time we all get frustrated with players but only because we care. Its hard to be objective all the time when you really, really want to win the game and one of the players is putting in (in your own eyes) a listless display of ineptitude. Guest South Coast Red
"a listless display of ineptitude" That would be Roberts then And No I don't this him at the match , just sob every time he misses
Guest Browner
Did you sob when he missed against Swindon or QPR. How about when he missed in the last few minutes against Hartlepool. It was his goals in the last 10 games that got us even close to promotion. Should have been there from the start and not wasted trying to fill Murray's boots! Back to the question. Although most of us on the forum live and breathe city, there will be a lot of people who pay £15 and expect to see exciting football. If they don't get it they in their own eyes (with some justification) feel it's ok to complain on the day.
Guest Rikku
I've always been annoyed with those who slate the players during the game because I cannot see what good it achieves. I appreciate that some people have the argument that we can't allow the players to believe they have put in an acceptable performance, but I don't think that it helps when so many people make their complaints quite audible during a game. All it does is knock the players' confidence and make them so afraid of doing something wrong that, in the end, that is exactly what happens! I know that everyone is different and some players are less affected by a negative reception from the crowd, but I've always thought that the slatings should be saved for the journey home or the pub on a saturday evening - basically, leave it out until after the final whistle. However, it is almost impossible to eradicate the complaining. I realised towards the end of last season that it isn't just the loud boo boys that cause the problem. When a player is having a bad game and the crowd are desperate for a win, a poor pass/tackle/shot etc. is obviously going to cause everyone to groan quietly to themselves. A lot of the time, the noisy and blatant discontent from the supporters is just a result of everyone muttering and cursing under their breath at the same time. It could be argued that we are not a very patient fanbase, but this kind of moaning is an unavoidable reaction and is only noticeable because we all do it in unison! Gazred
Although we are fickle fans, if we were following Real Madrid or whoever, the players would still have bad games, underperform or struggle in an unfamiliar position and we would still moan even though we would be watching world class players, that i am afraid is the nature of the beast that is football. Guest TheOne
I will be giving a %100 this season as Burnell and Rougier are OWT-A-HERE ! And I agree, it hapens at all clubs, from you local Pub team ( which include your best mate's in many places ) all the way up to the Top Guns in the Premiership, you/we can all say yes we ainn't going to get on anyones back this season and give our team %100 suport, but you wait by thefirst ½ of our 1st game Hill or Wilkshire will trip over a daffodile and then you'll all be jumping down his throat. Its human nature
Guest ciderarmy04
I understand what everyones saying and admit that there are times when we all really want to tear into a player for something they have done. But from my own experiences I know that after you have missed a chance in a big game or something you know what youve done wrong, and you dont need 10,000 or so people to keep reminding you of it for the rest of the game, we should all try to get fully behind the players at all times as I think that many of our players really do play alot better when they feel that they have got the crowd on their side, especially Roberts. Evocare
I disagree with your utopian idea, its silly really. think about it for a minute...if we are getting thumped 4-0 at half time, do we cheer them off? nope. If we get reliagted do we just laugh it off? with an "oh well never mind attidude"? fact is, nice as your idea is and i will back the team 100% but only until they aint giving 100%. Its up to us to keep them on their toe's, we need them to hunger for our cheers and songs, make them play for it, they look for it. i I make no bones about the fact that most people and myself with be bitching like girls as soon as someone messes up, it will happen. i'll also be quick to praise any player who is committed for the cause and plays well, this is what makes footy fun.
