1960maaan
Right I'm not dissing what LJ has done but something occurred to me recently. A bit like Bobby Robson in the World Cup 1990 ,when injuries forced a switch to a 3 at the back. It turned out to be a very clever , if slightly lucky move, a poor start turned into a very good tournament . Now to LJ, the injuries to Milan and FD and the no show of Woodrow and poor form (although hard work) of Taylor meant we started with Bobby up front on his own. I think the first time was Middlesboro, I remember on seeing the line up thinking we would struggle, man was I wrong. The formation of Reid on his own with Patto seemingly free to roam, Brownhill allowed to come in from the right and Korey and Pack as a safety net , is probably my favourite formation for some time. So has bad luck turned out to be good? Think back to the Fulham debacle of last season, we pressed individually and Fulham looked world beaters , passing around our midfield at will, like they were playing against more static dustbins. Wined on to this year and you can see the work that has been done. The movement , and fluidity of the players is awesome. The work that LJ has done in the last year is becoming more obvious all the time. I watched some the the full match back yesterday (with a bloody great smile I must add) , and it was interesting . The summarisers spoke of 'triggers' and you can see the difference, some times a player will close and that's it, one man goes. Then at the right time one man goes and they all go, hunting in packs, giving players no options but to go long, giving us chance to win the ball back , and this was a team tearing up the Prem. I was one of those who would have been happy to see a change last year, but if ever there was proof that giving a Manager time to build his vision then we are it. It has taken time, and we are not the finished article , but as LJ has learnt by his mistakes and the team has understood his ideas. One reason for starting this thread is that I'm a little worried, maybe I should say I'm interested, to see what happens if we bring in another striker, will it upset the balance? Walsh coming in adds options, if Kent comes in he's the same and gives us room to rotate and keep players fit and eager. When I used to play golf I said I would rather be lucky than good, perhaps Lee can be both. Supporting City over years has been a roller coaster, few ups, many downs, and I'm back in the same division I started watching them in. Watching another manager that wasn't my favourite to start with , mould a young team into a great one and into the top flight. This roller coaster has started to get fun , bring on Saturday , I'm really beginning to enjoy this football lark.
Spoons
LJ- master stroke in putting bobby Reid up front. His work rate pressing from the front is key to our form this season.
Jack Dawe
The more I get rid of Tomlin across the channel and mug the Welshies and Warnock off, the luckier I get. To paraphrase Gary Player. Top, top piece of business that, and as Spoons says, putting Bobby up top was inspired.
