Paul Tisdale on Westcountry just now

Lanterne Rouge

Every interview he seems to do nowadays sound more and more like he`ll be off from Exeter when his contract expires in November. I personally think he`s waiting for Wenger to depart the Arse so he can quit as the longest serving manager in the league. it will be interesting if he does sign a new contract if Arsene`s still hanging on come November.

Always thought he said he'd stayed down as he had carte Blanche over the club and enjoyed the lovely lifestyle we have down here; I believe he turned down Swansea and Southampton in the past?  Seems strange that on the Beeb website he is hinting Exeter aren''t ambitious enough for him anymore. I wonder what has changed as Exeter's clout hasn't really,?

I think he`s just had enough of the same old same old. We all get a bit stale if we`ve been in the same job since God was a lad and need a new challenge eventually. He`s only 45 so plenty of time to carve out some success elsewhere. Of course, he might just be having a mid life moment and will realise that the grass isn`t always greener and stay.

Was I the only person who thought he was an absolutely terrible player when we had him?

Probably not, but I always thought he looked like someone who would stay in football. He was the kind of player who looked like he knew the right thing to do, but never quite had the talent to pull it off.

It does seem strange if he does leave given that they`re well on the way to building a new main stand along with various other improvements. It`s going from a `quaint` but dilapidated lower league ground to what looks to be a tidy little one.

Mind you, I`ve never understood why they didn`t end up sharing Sandy Park with the egg chasers when that was built. The council (who I think own St James Park) could have helped out with that and be left with a prime development site in the centre of town - they could have made a fortune selling it for student flats.

You do wonder if, reading between the lines, he feels the club could have done more to get last season and this season's promotion challenges over the line. No idea what the reality is though.

They are fifth and only four points off auto with a game in hand though.

Maybe because all the ambition, and money, is currently going in to the new stands?

He was really pissed off that last season, despite all that he has done for Exeter City, the Supporters' Trust that owns the club decided to give him notice of the end of his contract ?two years.  Previously he'd just had a notice period like a normal job.  He hasn't felt the same way about the club since and may well just leave when that notice period expires even though they now want him to stay.

I've thought for a long time that he was the ideal coach within our structure and when Cotts got the push I was saying on here that we should go in for him.

I don't remember anyone else rating him so the extent of our being linked with him may have been my banging on about it!

There were issues a few years back with a move out to Matford that never really got off the ground - not sure the Chefs ( as my dear old mum calls them) ground is in quite the same place, but they have much greater financial backing that ECFC which may have helped ( plus they sold their ground for housing)In fact the latter's problem has been the crooks taking it out sometimes!

Yes actually the supporters trust thing makes sense.  Interesting that after that happened (when they were bottom) they went on a run that ended in the play off final (coincidence?). That said Speaking to a few Exe fans down here, over the last 3-4 years there's been periods when home form hasn't been great / style of play a bit dull. To an outsider it just looks like he's performed a brilliant job with practically no cash.

Totally.  It's about appreciating what you've got and what the guy has achieved on a shoestring.  Their fans only have to look at Torquay who are about to leave the Conference in the wrong direction to see where they would have been without Tisdale.

I would have him here like a shot; though I do think that LJ is doing fine.

And will probably cease to exist shortly afterwards sadly.:sad26:

Which would be a great shame. Classic local club, huge potential because of the level of population in the Torbay area.  If I was going to buy a club it would be them or Exeter (as I will never have enough money to buy City!).

Very true but the trouble is most of them don`t give a shit and wouldn`t unless they were at least in the Championship and even then I doubt they`d get regular crowds over about 10k. Torbay does have a huge population on paper but take out the oldies who`ve retired down there and the enormous transient population it has due to the nature of its economy you`ll never really have a viable fanbase IMO.

I believe that in a year`s time Torquay United will not exist. What will happen to Plainmoor then is anyone`s guess - sold for housing I expect. If a phoenix club gets off the ground (which I doubt it will) they`ll never get much higher than the Southern League Premier with the likes of Tiverton, Frome, Weymouth and Dorchester. Where they`d play, who knows?

Sad days indeed.
