Guest Hanham Red
On Bristol City World Tinman just confirmed Alan Armstrong has joined us on trial as out of contract. Could be the ideal Target man if he stays fit & will help the youngsters improve with his premiership experience. What does everyone else think?? Betelgeuse
I remember him being quite useful at Stockport, weren't City after him once before? Whats he been doing lately? Still at Ipswich?
i_am_red
i aint heard that, but if its true at least hes experinced and thats what we need, that will mean we will have at least one experinced player in each of the areas, stowell in goal, butler in defence, tinman and bell in midfield, and armstong up front

Guest Hanham Red
Definitely the ex-Boro & Ipswich striker. He has still been training with Ipswich but as I have said is now out of contract. Will initially spend a week with us.

Tins on bcfc World said he has been training with Ipswitch so his fitness levels are not that low. On a different note I would recommend bcfc World to any City fan with broadband even in pre-season it is interesting. Berkshire_Red
He is a decent player from what I have seen....but he does seem to have been injured alot in his career. red as fcuk
Would be a great signing if he can stay fit, otherwise perhaps a bit expensive (on wages) to be sat in the treatment room, which is where he seems to have spent most of his career! here is a link for those who don't know him.http://www.sporting-heroes.net/football-heroes/displayhero_club.asp?HeroID=8300

Leroyfromthestart
My concern isnt that its another striker. Tinman has stated that he is after a target man, which is why he try to poach Howard. However, Armstrong is probably not even 5ft 10. He'd be good to have at the club in terms of his experience, but I'd rather just see how the five other strikers do in the next couple of friendlies before we look for another striker. downendcity
I think he is a big guy (in terms of how tall he is!!) ← I stand to be corrected, but isn't Armstrong a Geordie?? If so Tinman might have some connection in the past??? In any event, I agree with other posters - just how many strikers do we need? at the rate we are going we are going to line up 1-1-8 against Torquay! Leroyfromthestart
I do apologise. Hes actually 6ft 1. CiderEagle
The argument about having too many strikers is bolox. The way football works is like this. You try to get the best possible players that you can afford. If somebody becomes available who is better than what you already have (which Armstrong definitely is IMO) then you get him in if you can, then look to move somebody else out. It should keep Gillespie, Miller and the rest on their toes at least ...

Guest TheOne
Personally I don't think we need another striker, we have at least 4 that can do the job, unless Tin mans got something planed for 1 or 2 of our current strikers then I can't see us signing him, if he does I think it's not a very wise move! I say we don't need him

Guest Big Si
I am happy with this, I think we have a number of small nippy strikers( 4 who could do a great job at this level), but no one is going to get out of this league without a big bruiser up front who can put himself about and score a few. Miller is a superb footballer, but I am not so sure he would play 90 minutes in 46 league games next season as the main target man against the big centre backs that every team will have, he needs some back up. Howard would have been ideal, but not for £500k or whatever. An experienced striker who has done it at the top level has got to be good - we could offer a pay as you play contract - happy days, well done Tinman. Si. zookeeper
I think he may add something that we will require next season. Experience! madmax
Just spoke to a colleague at work who is an avid Ipswich supporter and he says he is an excellent stiker as long as he's fit. He will certainly do a job for us in League One. MM
Cider red
He is a quality player and just the kind of striker we need. I just hope he's over his injury problems , if so we should give him a contract and he would be a great signing.
Guest nobby
i dont think we should go anywhere near him to be honest. i remember him having one good season at stockport about seven years ago, which got him his move to boro. ever since then hes done bugger all, spending monthes and monthes out injured and scoring hardly any goals. if tinnion is after a target man aswel i dont see why weve got him in,as i dont ever remember him as a target man??????? definatly one to avoid if you ask me,unless we want another lee matthews. My perception of Armstrong has not been of a Target Man so much as a poacher but then I've hardly seen much of Stockport, Boro and Ipswich over the years so he could well prove to be the cement in our mix of forwards. Guest robjames
Armstrong is a potential great signing. After all the job is promotion and thats what this guy will help achieve as long as fitness isn't an issue. Get him in Tin's wants more goals and we need competition of the highest level possible. I don't think defence is a issue tins is going 3-5-2 so we have plenty of cover. Hill,Fortune,Butler,Coles,Woodman,Bell plenty

Cider red
I hope its not the end for roberts. Stick lita out on loan because to be perfectly honest i dont think he will ever be more than an impact player. He comes on for 10 minutes and he's great , he unsettles defences and scores the odd goal. But he cant play more than 15 minutes and be half decent , the two games he has started he plays well for 15 minutes , gets a goal and then fades out. Roberts is a much better player in my opinion and we need to keep him. Armstrong is just what we need , an experienced striker who has proven himself at a higher level , our younger strikers can learn from him , hopefully he can help miller develope into an even better player than he already is. Its interesting that gillespie points out miller as a good striker.
