cider head Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 you might be in luck a company in the west midlands say they can, i'm sure someone in bristol can also.. http://www.jackboxwebdesign.co.uk/data_recovery.htm General Guide To Data Recovery and failed drives and disks Do you recover data from laptops, Zip Disk, PC drives, floppy discs and CDs? Yes, although it depends on the physical condition in each case. We can even recover 5 1/4 discs! How long will it take? It can take a LONG time to recover data sometimes. Whilst we can take on emergency recoveries, we cannot guarantee to retrieve the data quickly. Much depends on the actual physical condition of the drive or disc. We've had some cases where it has taken up to six days to pull off just a few hundred megabytes of data - so whilst we try to recover files as quickly as we can, we cannot guarantee a fast recovery. Even if the data you require only amounts to a few files, we have to recover the WHOLE disk or drive first. This is why drive size is the guiding factor when it comes to pricing. Should I open my hard drive? Categorically - NO! Do not open a failed or failing hard drive case under ANY circumstances. There is nothing you can repair and drives should ONLY be opened in a totally dust free environment by a specialist technician. If you do open your drive - DON'T send it to us! DO NOT fdisk, reformat, continually restart the machine or allow XP to 'repair' the disk as this may render the data totally unrecoverable. If we get the drive early, there is a high chance we can recover it. My drive is making strange noises Severly damaged drives (ie clicking or grating sounds) or ones that will not even 'spin' up will almost certainly need to be sent to a laboratory for recovery and this can be VERY expensive indeed. We cannot recover data from severly damaged drives. There are specialist companies who do just this - at a price (anything up to £1000 and beyond). In most other cases however, providing the drive is mechanically sound, even if its not recognisable in Windows, we can extract your data for you - so do call us first! Can you recover data from a formatted drive? In all likelihood - yes. Do you guarantee to recover all files? No. We can only recover that which is recoverable. Files do become corrupt and we sometimes have to recover them in a 'raw' state which means they can lose their original name as well as connections to any attached images. You may well have to reconstruct these connections yourself and in some cases find another program that will open the file, then save as an alternative format. We cannot reconstruct individual files - we merely recover them as they are (where possible). I get an 'Invalid System Disk' message when I try to boot into windows Hmmm, annoying but we can probably get your data back for you. I get as far as the Windows login screen then my PC reboots. This is probably a driver problem. Try rebooting in safe mode and see where the computer grinds to a halt. .not a data recoveryHmmm, annoying but we can probably get your data back for you. BIOS does not recognise my drive We can't help you on that one I'm afraid.... Can you recover data from every drive? Realistically - no. If we can't, we'll let you know. All you pay is £10 to cover return postage & admin if we have to return it as unrecoverable data. Can you recover mailboxes (PST OST files) from Microsoft Exchange Server? Our Mail Server crashed and we can't access the database. Yes we can, but PST files are somewhat fragile, particularly when they're big files. How do I get the drive to you? We don't recommend hand delivery simply because we have so many service calls and cannot guarantee that someone will be available to accept the drive. We now impose a £10 surcharge on hand deliveries as it can often require a member of staff having to hang around to collect it. Use Special Delivery or a Courier service, with masses of bubble wrap to protect the drive. Also, write down the model number and serial numbers printed on your drive and keep a record of these. Also include these, a summary of the fault and your return address. We DO NOT offer a 'While-U-Wait' service. All recoveries have to be sheduled and go through a number of processes before we can begin a full recovery including analysis, virus checking and a spares check. We can prioritise work but a £100 surcharge is applicable if you need instant attention. Bear in mind that ALL data recoveries are emergencies by their very nature and we have to justify putting one job before another. How will you return my data to me? By special delivery on CD, DVD or a brand new hard drive. We can supply all three at reasonable cost and usually have them in stock. http://www.jackboxwebdesign.co.uk/data_recovery.htm help line 02476 262 920 We cover all of the West Midlands and the rest of the UK including: Warwickshire, the West Midlands, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire including Coventry, Birmingham, Nuneaton, Bedworth, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Redditch, Rugby, Stratford Upon Avon, Wolverhampton, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Bromsgrove, West Bromwich, Kidderminster, Burton Upon Trent, Solihull, Tamworth, Lichfield, Brownhills, Cannock, Dudley, Hinckley, Leicester, Telford, Worcester, Derby, Walsall, Stafford, Daventry, Loughborough, Bridgenorth, Shrewsbury, Burntwood, Rugeley. openEnd Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I dunno if this would be of use. Certainly a lot cheaper that sending it away to be recovered. I have used it successfully on a damaged hard disk, not on a formatted disk, though the description suggests it could work for you. It saved my ar$e big time a while back. I dont know if the trial is limited in some way, i bought a copy. let me know how you get on. R-Studio
Guest albany P reds Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Buy a new computer you tight arse! I know your loaded screech Must be saving a fortune on hair products these days
Red Cloud Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 think it depends on what you've done since - fat16 used to just flag files as deleted "setting flag in File allocation table to "E5" comes to mind" & as long as you've not written over their space on the hard drive it was a simple case or resetting this flag - try norton unerase or freeware/shareware ones! If you're using fat32 or NTFS (which is more likely than fat16!) I honestly don't know?
