Citycitycity
Really? it's just another nail in the coffin of classic football to me. Let's all hang around for 2 minutes and wait for a decision.6 times per match. football is a game.. Well It was. Now it's a business worth billions so of course decisions like this cost money. Such a shame. These decisions are what we all talk about Monday morning. It isn't even the start of the end it's the middle of the end to me. Next up. Europe. To go watch your local side play a derby ffs
Admin phantom Posted November 15, 2018 Admin Report Share Posted November 15, 2018 A lot of what was great (in a bad way) was the talking points in football Heck people are still arguing about 1966, this will all be gone

I'm hopeful it'll slowly diminish diving too

Definitely doesn't solve everything, just changes the debates.

Who cares whether a game last longer as long as decisions are right.

I agree with you, and I'm also with you that VAR should be introduced. My view on the whole thing would be that it will be a good thing for the game eventually, but I'm not completely sold on it in it's current state. I don't think it's brilliant now, and it won't be for several years probably, but these things take time. You only have to look at the World Cup to see that there will be contentious decisions made still (Penalty in the Final, Iran's penalty against Portugal, Kane's lack of a penalty against Tunisia), and things that take far too much time etc. These will hopefully be ironed out once the system has a few seasons of use and is familiar to all those involved in using it. There is a lot of subjectivity in football, especially in decisions like Penalties, and for that reason I would be tempted to say that VAR shouldn't be used for penalty decisions at all, stick to reviewing offside goals, off the ball incidents and mistaken identity; things which are much more cut and dried. Getting the major decisions correct is one thing, but I do think there's another major element of the game that isn't really being considered at the moment, and that's the fans watching the games. It needs to be much clearer what the delays are, what is being reviewed, and even showing the video to the crowd like they do in rugby I think would give a much greater level of buy-in to the fans. Again, these are things that I think will be ironed out over time once the technology is introduced. What they will really struggle to resolve however, is the loss of emotion at certain points of the game. When a goal is scored, or a penalty is given, or the last man drags down your striker through on goal, there's a huge roar of emotion, or you're out of your seat screaming at the pitch/TV. I think some element of that would die when everything is reviewed microscopically. I realise that goals can be disallowed for offside now, but I'm sure most fans do as I do, and quickly look at the linesman when a goal is scored. With VAR you might find out a minute later, and it kills the moment. Anyway, that's just my two pennies worth. I hope it works out and improves the game. Red Army 75
It’s not for me . But that’s because everything in football is changing. Just a personal thing . But it has to run smoothly. No teething problems. It’s been tried and tested now . Quick an accurate yes . ******* about like the World Cup then I’m near the end

How long as football been around pre VAR? Do not think it will last that long post VAR in it's present form. Probably be played on screens the way things are going. Once the pacing is sorted (audible signals to the crowd by the refs etc.) then it becomes smooth and integrated.
