Very awkward situation for him. What was he meant to do? He leaves it, the ball come back in off the bar.

All hindsight but turn his hands the other way and put it out for the corner. Defend the corner and is job done.

But as others have said even the best make mistakes. They just forget them easily!!

Mistakes and costly mistakes are different things.

A keeper kicking the ball down field where an opponent gets too first is not a mistake if it is accurate enough to give a team mate a chance to win it but if it goes straight out of touch or is too far from a team mate that is a mistake by definition.

Coming for a cross you can’t get to  is a mistake but does not necessarily cost a goal.

Two mistakes a game is not that bad and certainly is true for Pickford !!

It can be. He always seems to have a rush of blood and does something daft. Guess he is young enough to improve. Just puts himself into  bad situations that most other keepers avoid

He had earlier made two top drawer saves to keep Everton in it.

Thats the life of a goalkeeper I guess.

True just think he could limit the damage at times. Again still quite young for a keeper so perhaps he has time to get rid of that from his game

Too top keeper IMHO his odd moments come as a result of his slight ecentricticy that also provides jaw dropping saves

Reminds me of Gazza in his mannerisms

Still young and learning

All keepers make errors , as do all players

The best make the fewest , Seaman and Shilton  were probably as ‘reliable’ as I’ve ever seen yet we can all recall at least one or two howlers from even them

Many will disagree but I don’t think Pickford is far behind De Gea , who looked shaky at United initially, give Pickford another couple of years to grow......he will be up there with any of them    IMHO

A lot of criticism here but how many people have actually played as a keeper? I ask because in that situation (the ball coming down on such an angle) it doesn't matter how much training you do you cannot read where that ball is going to go.

People saying "just tip it over and take the corner", it sounds simple but when it comes down like that it's very difficult to get your hand over the bar at the precise moment you need to and add the direction to the ball.

It was just a very fortunate fall for Liverpool and an absolute nightmare for Pickford, I certainly wouldn't hold it against him, it was just even more unfortunate based on the time and it being a derby game.

It's a horrendous mistake. He could easily just help that over the bar. Imagine the comments on here if our keeper did that against Rovers in the 96th minute!

Easily... that's what's bothering me, it was not easy at all. You try reading that trajectory when you're under it, then add the timing and ability to get your hand above the bar and push it behind. Just because he plays in the Prem that doesn't instantly give him something any other human being has.

Having played as a keeper and trained with many keepers I can tell you that most keepers would take 5 extra shots against them than have to deal with that situation as it's instantly unpredictable and only ever made simple with hindsight.

Ok how many times do you see a mistake like that?
