1960maaan
I'd be interested to hear others thoughts. I will add a disclaimer, I couldn't make it today and only had the radio to go on, but it's not just about this game. People have said/mentioned the Stoke game was the last time we looked threatening, and actually took the game to the opposition. Now my thoughts on this are that Stoke, who were in a poor run of form, sat back after going 1-0. They didn't need to do much as they would have probably accepted a draw before KO. Yes we did move the ball well, the movement was better but it's easier when the team you're playing doesn't press high up and you have time to pick a pass. Move on to our recent run. I don't know what LJ says to the team, I'm not 100% sure how we are told to set up or the individual roles that are given to players, only the team would know that for sure. So looking from the outside it does seem, even more than usual, we are setting out not to concede and maybe pinch a win. The last 2 games against possibly the poorest sides in the division (at least currently). At Ipswich we conceded far too much possession in a game we should have tried to dominate, and today , 1 up front against a side that had no ambition. Just getting to my theory. I do wonder if LJ's fear of loosing, or lack of ambition, has passed to the players. At 1-0 against a team that hadn't had a shot of any sort, we let them back in by seemingly sitting back. We have done it time after time, on the occasions we get a lead we defend deeper and deeper . When he first came to the club he tried things like throwing an extra striker on to make us see out the game on the front foot. Last year we took the game to the opposition every game, we tried to win and make them worry about us. Now it seems we try and hold teams, nick a goal and see it out. Is it possible that his mindset has transferred to the players? We get a goal and stop trying things that we maybe did at 0-0. I would be understandable if there was a lack of confidence , but only having one shot on target against a team that would snap your hand off for a 0-0 at kick off is awful, and I don't believe just down to poor form or play but must have something to do with mindset. LJ has had a change of attitude and style this year, yes we lost players but we also brought in his choice of replacements. I've said before, we only really miss Reid's dynamism in and around the oppositions box, and Bryans runs/crosses and goal threat from the left. I guess you have to add Flints goals, but he was a freak for us. Players leave clubs every year , they recruit , move on and manage. We lost 3 players and seemingly an identity, LJ has put this side together but we don't seem to have a blueprint to work too. looking at the squad I honestly believe we have enough to be a good team but I also think the fear of the management has transferred to the players and now they seem scared to try things , it's the only thing I can think as a reason so many players have gone into their shell . Enough of my ramblings, slightly hangover related, I would be interested in peoples thoughts though.
Numero Uno
I just think we set up cautiously full stop. We try and counter the opposition rather than let them worry about us. The biggest issue today was the number of times a wide man wanted to stick a cross in the boss, looked up and there’s only one player in there. First half Paterson put in a peach of a cross but Diedhou wasn’t in the box as he was involved in the build up, Weimann made a great run near stick and had Brownhill made the run to the far stick it was free header from 8 yards and 1-0. Our midfield players consistently fail to make those runs so to me that’s a Management issue, they must be playing to orders so that we aren’t done on the counter. So to sum up, our Manager and Coaching Staff are negative and cautious and our goal return at home this season proves it.

Good post mate , with some interesting and good points Certainly today , when we began to sit back I would have put Eisa in and ask him to link , link , link with Famara and give them something to worry about They were throwing players incl defenders forward with impunity
downendcity
My biggest concern , with regard to LJ's "negative" attitude, is his approach to team selection. For some time I've felt and commented ( as have others) that he appears more concerned with selecting a team and formation primarily designed to counter, or stifle the perceived strengths and threats of the opposition rather than making the most of our own. It must convey to the players that he has little or no confidence in the players going out to win games, so sets up for damage limitation.

Dear Lee, I`ll help you a bit; Attack the best form of defence (we cant rely on them scoring for us for too long)
