A side modelled in his own image ....

Chatting to Ian [RB regular post match analyst] on way back from game and he said our squad consists of some tidy footballers who aren't particularly quick and don't fancy a hard tackle. That was LJ as a player to a tee. Never had a really bad game but never had an outstanding one either.

And that's us as a team now- 4 points out of 6 this week has eased the pressure. We could well get 0 from 9 in the next 3 games but then 4 from 6 in the two home Christmas games will ease things again. This will be followed by a defeat against Stoke on New Years Day and a plucky performance but defeat against a Prem side / or an away loss to a L1  side in FACR3. Heat off again after 3 points home to Bolton. That's it and its not so bad is it and if all those games saw LJ's team play like they did for half a game against Stoke  - i could just about live with that level of inconsistency. Thing is his team selection and tactics are *hite with a capital S!!!

I've seen all the home games, went to WBA and based on effort walked away feeling OK even thought we got thrashed then Leeds last week when we did OK but couldn't believe the deluded idiot's comment, "we were looking the more likely winners" [until the sending off]. FFS, what is he on!!!

Today he says we showed our identity - what IS our *ucking identity. Yes, this time last year we had one - sadly we have regressed beyond belief.

These are the ramblings of a 62 year old fan in his 52nd season of supporting this club. Sadly, like quite a few on here, this latest instalment of the Johnson dynasty is sucking the life out of my love for this club.

The sooner Ashton gets the role I imagine he is angling for at the EFL the better!!!!

@headhunter I thought Ian was a bit wide of the mark with some comments tonight.  I didn’t think it was a bad performance, but I thought Ian just verbalised that he’s had enough, which is fair enough, rather than reflect on today’s game.

Ultimately we didn’t create enough shots on target, but I was entertained in the main, and I don’t think anyone would’ve said 1-0 wasn’t about right.

I think that's a tad harsh. Lee Johnson never had a huge number of great games, but I do know that when he did, it was invariably a good team performance as well He was actually a key player for us and when he had that injury, results suffered big time

Is he injured now?

Headhunter comments could not be further from my views even if he was trying to wind me up on a Sunday evening. I saw Lj play over 200 times, I went to Leeds and I listen to all Ljs post matches.

In my view your comments are totally wfoand would love to discuss them with you at Bham, Derby or any other away day.

I just can't believe you are serious

Somehow I don't think I'm in the minority with my opinions

The problem for us was once we went 1-0 up Millwall then showed some attacking intent, you could sense they were going to equalise which they duly did, then they just tried to slow the game down by time wasting and feigning injury and sucked the life out of a very poor game

You're not in the minority on OTIB but you might be over the total fan base. As people have said before the comments on here tend to be the extreme ends of the opinion spectrum and don't necessarily represent what the average fan feels.

I agree with the OP 100%. As a player LJ was never afraid to receive the ball but was always "safe" with his distribution. He wouldn't play the forward pass unless he was sure it would be successful. Instead he would invariably play it square or back, even it meant him getting it back again. I don't think he ever hid in games but he rarely stood out either. I believe he manages the same way by erring on the side of caution. Its a shame he's reverted to this because our high press game last season was both entertaining and rewarding. Failing to recruit the right replacements during the past 12 months has meant a change of style and LJ has gone back to what he knows best, cautious play. For me at the moment that reads as boring negative play!

Based on recent performances the quality of play served up by LJ has deteriorated to the same level of his father. I really didn’t think that was possible.

Drab, no serious threats on goal, pedestrian and dull to the point of falling asleep...........:fastasleep:

Im seriously worried that he’s becoming a clone of his dad....the difference is that his father scrapped some wins which glossed over just how poor the quality was. Unfortunately LJ isn’t winning as much this season and getting stick because of it.

Shame really because we saw some high tempo attacking play last season so we know he can get his team playing in an attractive way but for some reason he’s abandoned that and gone back to the way he used to play - keep possession by passing sideways or back.........

Blimey....are you turning?

Walsh is in his own image (stature wise), but credit where it's due... he likes a crunching tackle. A big miss at the moment, as is Smith. No shirker either. Unlike the hairstyle on legs...

Walsh’s first instinct is forward too...very different.

I’ve said before that I’m neutral regarding LJ but want him to do well nevertheless.

I sat there Saturday and the game was so dreary with City having no idea that it occurred to me that it was like watching his dads team........If that continues I’ll definitely be turning but I won’t be a lone voice this time around.

Bob - you use the term troll or trolling regularly when referring to my posts but I’ll ask you what the difference is between your posts and mine?   :dunno:

Yes I think it is a side modelled in his own image.

I remember the very dynamic Yeovil team he was in with Darren Way, Gavin Williams & Jeavons, all action and brilliant until it got dismantled and sold as it inevitably would.

I also think back to last season where I witnessed some of the best football I have ever seen in over 40 years of supporting Bristol City and again some of the best players have been sold and we have evolve again.

Both teams modelled in the way he wants to play.

He needs to base his teams around the few physical players we have to ride it through to the transfer window. Unfortunately some of those players are injured or just returning (Taylor, Walsh & Baker.

We needed a starting striker last season until he converted Bobby Reid into a 20 goal striker, which was a master stroke.

The continual problem he faces is the lingering nepotism which always surfaces when things aren't perceived to be going well. That, and the heightened expectations of last season's pre Christmas form giving everyone a tantilising taste of what could be around the corner.

He's not perfect & relies too much on certain players at times.

Some of the criticism he receives I feel is way over the top for someone who genuinely loves the club.
