Guest FootyStats
Morning, How about that new crest? I see from Twitter that the majority are split on it. Personally, I think it's quite clean and modern but another part of me rues that all of these club badges now look the same. There's just no intricacy anymore. Circle badge, generic icon and some text around the edges. Bobs your uncle. Anyway, I'm here to provide a statistical view of your season so far. I've been going around a few different forums recently and it's been great to chat with the fans. Goals Scored Usually, when I think of Bristol City, I usually associate your side with scoring plenty of goals. This season, however, you're in the bottom half of the table for goals scored, currently sitting 14th with 45 goals from 36 games. That's an average of 1.25 goals per game. For comparison, Norwich leads the charts with 77 goals. Unlike most teams, the majority of your goals has actually come whilst playing away from home. Defensive Record Bristol City is still in with a chance of making the playoffs this season and that could be down to the improvement in the defence. Last season, the club conceded an average of 1.26 goals per game. This season, just 1.06 goals per game. They have the 3rd best defensive record in the Championship, only behind Sheffield United and Middlesborough. So far, you have kept a clean sheet in 33% of games (12 games). What's also interesting is that you have kept a clean sheet in 47% of your away games. This is really impressive. To those that watch City at home and away. Do you think there's a difference in approach or tactics? Form and Trends The start of the season was patchy for Bristol City but from December onwards you really got into your stride. After 3 second-half goals helped you defeat Ipswich away from home at the end of November, you went unbeaten for 13 games. During that spell you kept 6 clean sheets, 4 being away from home. Form has dipped recently, and possibly at the worst time of the season. Looking at the Championship form guide for the last 5 games, Bristol City is rock bottom. Next up for City is a couple of very difficult away trips. Sheffield United and Middlesborough. Depending on how these go and results elsewhere, it could be a defining week. Still, the foundations are there at Bristol City and as the stats suggest, they just need a little more consistency. Interesting Stats 97% of games have seen a goal scored Majority of goals between 60-70 mins AVG Possession: 52% Shots Per Game: 13.56 Thanks for reading. 1960maaan
Losing 30 to 40 goals with the departure of 3 players made Johnson take stock and tweak things definitely. Last year we could score but we’re pretty much guaranteed to conced. This year , slightly more pragmatic, and circumspect, but being able to score one and think you will win a game is a very good mindset to have. Why we have tailed off recently, who really knows. Too similar to recent years not to think it is a little mental weakness. We are, as a team , too streaky, which is great if on Saturday we get a result to start another good run. But it puts the thought of a losing run in the backs of people’s minds. Good post btw
Guest FootyStats
Thanks! That makes sense, I guess Johnson himself is still adapting as a manager. I'll be watching the next couple of games with interest. Derby is another side that will hope their current run is temporary.

I don't think you can say that LJ is 'adapting' as a manager - he has been in charge of 300+ games, he is no novice, albeit he is young for a coach he started young, 29 IIRC.
