Like you I'm very interested in how the club does its business...I'm committed and want to be supportive and I think it's easier to do that if you appreciate the challenges that people like Mark Ashton face. My career was in a public facing organisation which periodically opened up about what it was doing and the choices it had to make and invited people along. It was always interesting, and valuable, to get feedback from people who paid our wages...whose perspective was very sometimes very different to ours. Bedred31
Bit depressed yesterday, far more optimistic this morning. Then journey home from work. 3 hours stuck in pitch black railway tunnel before rescued by emergency services- wooden ladder job, 1 by 1 , then half mile walk in tunnel. Now holed up in London Premier Inn. May realistically miss tomorrow’s game, but not as gutting as not being home with wife, as it’s our silver wedding! Leveller
The Nketiah debacle obviously wasn’t BCFC’s fault and it skewed everything else at the last minute. It’s hard to know whether Arsenal or the player led us up the garden path over the last few months, but it may well be that the Leeds interest genuinely emerged only at the end, and objectively you can’t blame them for making that choice. It all feels a bit dishonourable, but which of us, advising the player, would objectively have done any different? Their need was genuine after Roofe left, meaning Nketiah could be first choice. Ironically Nketiah also made himself look more desirable in the last few weeks. Our Plan B worked, even if it does look less glamorous right now. Born and Red in 82
The whole last couple of days of the transfer window was doing my head In at work as I’m sure was the same for many on here!! Now things have settled I’m upbeat with the signings made I just hope that the Management/Coaches implement their plan and tactics fast into the team because the season could be over before we know it if this sudden new look team doesn’t gel fast.....it’s almost like LJ has excepted it hasn’t worked out with his previous signings and he is starting again..Big Risk though and little time to make it work...last week I was thinking a couple of additions and we could make the playoffs, now I’d be happy finishing in the top half! How is a direct striker who loves the channels like Afobe, going to fit into the same style of play as a fox in the box line Nkheita ? Afobe, was at least, our 3rd choice striker and probably a lot further down the pecking order than that. In all honesty you or I could have picked up the phone and signed him at 5pm yesterday. Stoke wanted shot of him and there were literally no other takers. There was no skill or strategy in his signing - plus no time to negotiate on salary, so Pack and Patterson were unceremoniously booted out the door to make head room. What concerns me most is that this is so out of character for MA. The management of the window was fantastic up to this point. Am really excited about the Benfica RB and the new lads in midfield and totally get that strategy, as all should increase in value and Negy should have taken a lot of stress off, rather than replaced Pack. Not replacing Webster at all is very weird, as surely we knew that was always a domino that could fall? Moore, Wright and Baker can all do a job if fit, but is that enough for top 6 ? Most worryingly we don’t have any real LB cover for JD. Is Rowe really going to fit into that system ? It all smells like SL refused to sanction the salary required for a top half champ striker and possibly another CB. Not necessarily Steve’s fault if he was told by MA we could land one for circa £25k per week and the market then moved. Either way I think this collective failure could have massively set us back. There was a reason no one else wanted Afobe If it hasn’t, and as we all hope, Afobe is a beast for us - then it’s going to be due to accident rather than design... Mad Cyril
Not sure we have any right to know why player x or player y turned us down, or that it in anyway helps the players we have got, to air this in public. Do you really want the club coming out with statements like "Nketiah said Leeds are better", "player X said we are shit", "wanted to get a player to replace Y but couldn't find one", "player Z laughed and said we had bugger all chance of promotion", or "yes Afobe was 7th choice but amazingly said yes" etc?? There is a reason why you wont hear your boss at work talk about the candidates that got away. No, I would rather the club simply share Nketiah's personal address and contact details. That would help me to feel a lot better. Has anyone got a shoebox I could have?

Hector at Chelsea was available for £5m. Why didn't we do that deal?

I would genuinely love to be proved wrong and he steps up. For his first showing as Webster's replacement, Moore could not have had a tougher baptism than on Sunday We could have paid £12m for a central defender to replace Webster and he might well have looked no better than Moore did against Leeds. It wasn't that Moore played badly but more that our midfield weren't at the races, surrendered the centre of the park and gave the defence no protection. Also Leeds were pretty damn good and will run plenty of teams ragged this season.

Im sure some footballers still see Bristol as a footballing backwater and that we’re a Micky Mouse outfit and see signing for us as a step down in standard. Said the same to a mate about how Bristol is perceived. Get someone a bit older who has been around a bit, Kalas, couldn't wait to get back and settle down here. A young lad like Nketiah, he doesn't want that. I think Bristol may surprise him on that front though 20 minutes ago, mozo said: Hector at Chelsea was available for £5m. Why didn't we do that deal? Plus...you have to take into consideration whether players around him, trust him. That effects others performances. LJ likes the ball played out from the CB not having to rely on CDM to do it for them. Can Moore do that? He showed signs. If not...Nagy will be coming back deeper to set up play imo. I hope Moore comes good and we don't have to go back into the market in January.

I think Roofes departure to Anderlect changed everything.......Suddenly Leeds needed a replacement striker, and as someome mentioned, Leeds DOF is best buddies with Emery. If Roofe had not left, then NKetiah would probably have come here?. Sometimes it only takes a little thing to prompt big changes?

If he shows signs of adapting quickly then great. You’re right , how will we know if he doesn’t play. If he keeps making the same mistakes then we have a problem. LJ sees him every day so we will have to trust him.

If so...that says a lot about him as a person. By all means change your mind, but do the right thing, especially if a Club have spent time courting you. That sort of mud sticks and he's been badly advised if true. What goes around.... I find it very hard to believe that was the case to be honest. He doesn't sound like that sort. He'd have pissed off Arsenal if he'd done that too don't forget. Far more likely Leeds came in late and Arsenal told him to go there instead. The one problem is hes right footed playing on the left side. I can see a player in there and as others have said, he's bulked out abit. I hope the kid makes it but he needs games to gain experience. Xiled
It feels far too soon to criticise Taylor Moore for anything that went wrong in the Leeds game. He might have not even made the squad if Webster's transfer hadn't gone through 24 hrs before. Hardly ideal preparation. He made a few mistakes and looked short of pace but Kalas and Hunt didn't cover themselves in glory. If I was typing this from my laptop, I would run a search on posts from 12 months ago when some people were saying Webster looked uncertain on the ball and was a poor replacement for the departed Flint. We need to give Moore at least 5 games to know whether he's going to make the grade. A strong season at Southend with all their fans wishing him well tells you everything. Both Flint and Webster made that lower league transition so every reason to think that Taylor Moore has more than enough to make that CB role his own. Had we gone out and bought a 22 year old player who had represented England at U17, U18, U19 and U20 level, we would have been pretty excited.
