City quickly out of the blocks  going 2-0 up, with excellent goals from Lloyd-Smith and Bance. Could have had more in the first half, but a strike from ex City Hutton narrowed the gap at half time. 2nd half was a nervy affair, although City had the better chances and Bentley was rarely troubled. On a roll now, just need a bit more of a clinical edge and promotion becomes a possibility.

Up to third in the table. Two points off the top two.

City's next league game sees them face second-played Durham at AG.

If buts and maybe but we would be top without that ridiculous second half capitulation against Sunderland

good to hear, must admit having seen 2 of the early games thought they had no chance of challenging near the top. Maybe Kirby is getting them organised.

Enjoy the match, look forward to seeing your pics on here at some point.

I've posted most on my own social media, but here you go. Had a better look at The Valley this time as I wasn't really able to when I was there back in 2019...

It is starting to look a little like under Lauren Smith in the Championship. Not quite there yet but promising signs.

Finally shaking off the psychological damage last season did to the team

As long as we continue in this vein of form we are certainly in for an exciting couple of months ahead

After yesterday, it's cup action as well as an international break. Got one league game at home to Durham on Dec 15th, then a winter break and no league game until January 19th when we host London City!

And Eartha Cumings - who was Sophie Baggaley's number 2 at City but then went to Charlton to finally get gametime, made her Scotland debut & now plays for Rosengard in Sweden

It's the international break after this weekend.

Ffion Morgan, Ella Powell & Tianna Teisar called up for Wales' Euro play-off final with Ireland.

Mari Ward & Maddy Earl called up to England U19 squad for the U19 Euros qualifiers

Full match now on YouTube. Hopefully you can hear how loud the City support comes across...

Did they mention the crowd at Charlton? Does it match ours this season, ie. circa 2000.

Nowhere near ours. Always difficult to judge, but I'd say 6, 7 hundred. Crowd was no better at London Lionesses. We are one of the better supported clubs.

Disappointing, would have expected more as Charlton are doing pretty well. Shame the attendances appear to be stagnant at certain clubs, Sunderland only had 450 against us. Although saying that they had over 15K v Newcastle who had 11K v Southampton, so there is an appetite there. Both games were played at the main stadium.

I was going to say that Bob Bolder, goalkeeper, was one of ours as well, but I have now checked, and he never played for us.

Didn't we used to have a goalkeeper by that name, or similar?

There's a list of all those who have actually played for us here, but it looks like you have had to have made an appearance to get on the list.

I can't see anyone with a similar name, unless you mean Harry Clay. 🤣

Think he came here on loan.  But not sure if he played?

My recollection is/was that he was a youngster, but this would have been back in the 1980s, or even the 1970s, so I am probably mistaken.

I might be wrong.  Just had some vague memory of him coming on loan when he was back-up to Grobelaar at Liverpool.  It could’ve been a rumour.

Great guess, it was 791

I can see why it wasn't announced at the game itself.

I was expecting more attendance to be honest, especially as Charlton were pushing on social media that the game was the only WSL/Championship one to be taking place in London on that day

Yes it's sad really. Women's football is a great afternoon out, it's depressing the numbers not rising.

I assume this may have been just got Charlton - especially as this is their first version at The Valley full time.

The home fans were way quieter (other than the time when Jodie Hutton scored). Hopefully they'll get more numbers soon

For those wondering where the press conference for this week's game is...it seems the club confirmed they haven't done one, but have given no reason why

A bit odd, the pressers are quite good and occasionally enlightning.

Unfortunately, Ashton Gate is already in use with the Bears having their cup game this afternoon

Heavily rotated squad this afternoon. Mustaki, Powell, Bance & Syme remain in the starting XI (Syme named captain today). Struck returns from suspension to start

Fearne Slocombe from the academy is on the bench

KO 3pm. I'm not able to make it because of conditions affecting my travel, so hope those that are going so enjoy the game

FT 1-3. All goals scored in the first half.

City bottom of the League Cup group D. Elsewhere, Leicester got a bonus point after beating Brighton on penalties

Final group games on December 11th.

International break now then the team return on December 8th for Women's FA Cup Third Round - draw taking place tomorrow morning

On a balmy autumnal afternoon, a much changed City played like a much changed eleven lacking cohesion in the first 20 minutes and allowing Birmingham to walk to a 2-0 lead, the 2nd a howler as changed goalkeeper Burns passed straight to an unmarked Birmingham player. As the game settled down City had more ball and got a goal through Harrison, but more defensive lapses restored Birminghams advantage. Half time subs made the 2nd half an even affair, but the damage had been done.

So all we have to do is beat Brighton 5-0 and we're through 😀

Not a game for the faint-hearted or the arthritic! Terrible lashing rain all day made for a real slog, never mind having to play the opposition. However, with lots of changes there was quite a poor start and we didn't pick up the momentum until later. That gave us another challenge to face which we might have turned when more subs came on - the more regular starters.

I understand the club's approach in that there is not a massive chance of going through so it was good to give some of the lesser lights and returning injured players some valuable gametime, but I wonder what was achieved today? The weather was a significant factor, making it difficult to really assess the performances. For those who got minutes under their belts it must have been a bit of a relief to head off for a hot shower. Still, it was good to see the depth strength and some of the up-and-coming squad members.

FA Cup third round draw takes place this morning at 11am on Instagram. City (ball 1 in Southern section) enter the competition as being in the Championship. Not sure if tempting fate, but Rovers are also in the hat after they won their second half game...

Posted (edited)

The livestream on Instagram was a complete shambles & nearly all of the South section draw froze.

Anyway, City are drawn away to Southampton with the game due to take place on December 8th

Perfect weekend in the South Coast with the men away at Portsmouth on December 7th. However, Saints tend not to play their cup games at St Mary's, so it may be either AFC Totton's ground or even Eastleigh FC?

Do they have replays in the Women's FA Cup?

For as long as I've been following the women's game, no there isn't.
In the event of a draw after 90 mins, the game goes to extra time & then penalties if needed

In the Women’s FA Cup today, the two final scores which stood out were Long Itchington 0 v Nottingham Forest 19, and Burnley 11 v Bradford 0.  Also, Stevenage drew 1-1 with their visitors, Luton but the home team won on pens 15-14! Crazy!

These were rescheduled second round fixtures that were due to take place the week before, I believe. And I believe the likes of Burnley & Forest have way more investment in their women's teams (and are also higher up in the pyramid)

I know she’s no longer ours, but Brooke Aspin did her ACL yesterday.  Hope she makes a full recovery.

Gutted to hear that over the weekend. She did her ACL a few days ago, but it was reported yesterday

She's gone back to parent club Chelsea for her treatment, but effectively her loan at Crystal Palace is pretty much over
