Robbored
The general concensus amongst the forum users if that BT will continue to play the so far(one game)unproved 4-3-3 system at B'ley on Tuesday. Having seen that system fail to impress yesterday will BT consider changing things for what is a difficult away game. The onus will be on the home side to attack and with only three across midfield the City defence will be stretched maybe beyond breaking point. Seemingly,BT doesn't like 4-4-2 much so could 3-5-2 be preferred. That would be my choice. At least then the wing backs can get up and down providing much needed attacking width and cover at the back. richieb
Agree, with 2 away games, we have to get more points on the board & I can't see the 4-3-3 winning much away from home? I go with the 3-5-2, as I think we have the players that can hurt teams away from home playing this formation. Having said that Tinnion has said he's his own man & is going to attack at home & away, I too doubt whether he will ditch it after one game. If we get 4 points or more in next two games playing 4-3-3, then Torquay was a blip!
RedUn
Having seen that system fail to impress yesterday ← Surely a system can only be determined a success or failure after it has been correctly applied by the players on the day? This was not the case yesterday and the manager immediately made it clear that he expects better performance levels in future. New players, new manager, new formation - its always the case that things take a bit of settling into for players and fans alike, so let's give it longer than 90 minutes before decreeing the manager is only allowed to play the game the same way we've all become used to. I think 4-4-2 would suit the current team better but 3-5-2 would be better than 4-3-3. When Bells fit and KA, a 3-5-2 becomes more playable.Woodman & Smith are full backs as opposed to wing backs. Whatever the formation we need a target man, simple as that.
SimplyRed
I half agree with Bristol Boy AND Red'Un I think Brian has every right to play any formation he thinks will help us win the game. I also think he will probably stick with the 4-3-3 because it's too early to simply dismiss it after only 1one game. I'm just really unsure about what will happen if he does stick with it. At the moment, I can't predict the outcome. I agree with BB, that we need a target man and I see Miller in that role, being the best header of a ball at the club. Apart from his faux pas with the penalty, I thought the Doc stamped his authority on the game when he came on and is a must to start on Tuesday. And I think Brian must start on the bench. So, I would like to see this team start against Barnsley: Phillips; Smith, Coles, Fortune, Woodman; Orr Doherty Anyinsah; Gillespie, Miller, Heffernan Subs: Murray, Tinnion, Roberts, Hill, Goodfellow/Harley
Cider Queen
I actually think that 4-3-3 will be a better option away from home. On Saturday we had the problem of trying to break down a side who would have been quite happy with a 0-0. Once we scored the game opened up a bit and we created a few chances. And had it not been for the penalty we would have won and although not a great performance most of us would have been happy. Away from home you would expect the homes side to come at us a bit more. I would be tempted to move Murray from the front 3 into the midfield as he will be able to create his own space with the strikers taking the defenders away. He would also be able to use his pace a bit more. Also - Tinnion admitted he was disappointed with the performance himself (great to get a honest opinion) He knows that we HAVE to improve.. so lets stop critising him and get behind him. I would have been more worried if he had spouted 'Wilson-esque' quotes 'the players did all I asked of them' 'we played well and created lots of chances...' etc etc My team for Barnsley would be Phillips, Smith, Coles, Fortune, Woodman, Murray, Doherty, Orr, Miller, Lita and Heffernan. Not too much different but notice no Tinnion. I thought he did okay but every move went through him, slowing the game down.
