Tinnion - Innovative Or Foolish ?

I read with interest Richard Lathams preview in todays Sunday Independant.

Saying how bold Tinnions statements have been regarding tactics, bench players etc.

RL mentioned the words of DW "When I got 1st Managers job,I thought I could change the game, I had so many ideas, after a few months I realised like everyone else does that you are dealing with human beings &, in fact, there is no magic formula."

But he goes on to say that Tinnion has brought a breath of fresh air to the club? Umh,agree to a degree, but I would still say we have got a comfy choice.

Concerns shown, regarding defending at set pieces & using the 4-3-3 formation & as so many have already pointed out, we need a target man.

The interesting sign off for RL was that he says the a good start is essential to stave off those who claim the club took the 'cheap' option.

Tinnion deserves time to suceed, but he knows better than most that he is unlikely to get it.

Lets hope that RL gets ti right & Tinnion succeeds. Bristol City needs him too.

Tinnion wanted too much of the ball and passed sideways 90% of the time - very pretty but totally ineffective. Let Doherty and Orr have the run of midfield and we'll probably be OK. Orr didn't get a look in because it seemed the gaffer wanted the ball, and that is a problem.

If we are to persist with 4-3-3 then Tinnion and Murray should not start.

I think you have several valid points. For over ten years Brian Tinnion has run the game for us from midfield but like all good things that should now come to an end. His place is on the touch line seeing the bigger picture and influancing things from there. In Tommy we have a natural replacment for BT and Orr is a great companion for him. With regard to Scott Murray he is a wide player not a striker so with the 4-3-3 he either plays at the back and pushes up or starts on the bench. Maybe 5-3-2 would suit him better?

Are you mad..? Tinman is irreplacebale...there is no player with his style really....

Tommy is a short central midfielder..Tinman is a tall left-sided player....

We don't need to replace Tinman because he's a one-off

As I mentioned in an earlier post; on Saturday Tinman got too much of the ball and demanded too much of the ball and he was given it because it's his ball.

Over the last two years Tinnion has slowed the game down with passes that are beautiful to watch but don't take us anywhere.

He needs to use himself sparingly.

On another point will Murray be the new Peacock; never dropped?

Tinnion took the job with all it's associated "problems".

I hope he delivers because that means we are successful, but if he doesn't he should go the same way as all other failures. That is the nature of the job - but there are 45 games left and lets not get carried away by one very poor performance.

It takes time to settle into any new job, Tins is still learning the ropes and it is inevitable that some mistakes will be made along the way. Success will depend on how quick he learns from them. However we shouldn't also forget that as far as starts in management go, managing City is a great opportunity. Talented squad, good chairman and money to spend. Certainly beats having to cut your teeth at Colchester or Chesterfield etc.

The bottom line is that we fans have to hope that Saturday was a combination of first match nerves, new players getting to know each other and a new formation not quite working.

In other words - a blip.

The next two games, both away will be crucial and give the fans and BT more opportunity to asses whether 4-3-3 is the right formation. The problem is though' that City could lose both games whilst experimenting with 4-3-3 and if that happens then the pressure will be building on BT just three matches into his reign and we all know what pressure can do a manager and his players.

As with Wilson last season, its far,far to early to be making any judgements about BT's managerial qualities and I will reserve judgement(same as last season)untill I feel qualified to make a such a judgement.Last season Wilson kept City in the top 6 virtually all the campaign and BT is going to have to do the same this time around. If by xmas City are outside the top 6 and way off the pace then I reckon we might see a return of the "manager out" brigade and that won't do anyone any good.
